  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey guys (and girls). I guess I have a little bit of natural drawing talent, but I've never been able to do much more than copy other pictures or drawings. Can anyone recommend any resources that I might use to sharpen my skills (books, tutorials, etc)?

Thanks!

Books about drawing or sketching in general. Art for Dummies or art excercise books are good.

Visit an art museum and study what others have done, or just google sketches of famous artists.

I also just copy everything, even if its a bit sloppy, just sit back and draw what you see, practice is really how you improve.

Also, talk to other artists. My dad is an art minor, so I get a lot of help from him.

,Just draw draw draw, never forget to have fun and praise God for how much (or little) amount of talent you have. Just like the parable Jesus told, when God gives you coins, you invest in it and work it until you have more coins, and when God returns, he will be proud of how you have nurtured your talent, no matter how big and small.

You can join ConceptArt.org sketchbook section, critique section, and join artist communities. Bridgeman is good too.

I am very fortunate to have a wonderful mom who buys me art books. I need to use my art books more. I love to draw, most of what I draw comes from my imagination, but I do copy pictures from art books, magazines, calendars, postcards, photographs, and TV shows, movies, cartoons that I like. Sometimes I draw fan art. I have drawn a lot of Disney fan art of the Disney princesses. I would like to draw Bible illustration, illustrating Revelations would be cool. I would like to illustrate the traditional Grimm's fairytales, world mythology, Shakespeare and classic literature, like I said the Bible and other Christian art. and history stuff, holiday, fantasy, anything bright and beautiful. I like dragons, angels, fairies. I am into nature and flowers. Celtic knotwork fascinates me.
