  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

For most Americans learning Hebrew is tough. It’s not like learning a Latin based language. It’s a very different way of thinking. So, how does one deal with that?

When I studied biblical Hebrew, the other students were always amazed at how easy it was for me and at times questioned me on it. I explained I learned Hebrew by prayer. I really believed that God wanted me to know it and that he would help me to learn it. It was the prayer that made it easy – although it was, indeed, a lot of effort, and I went to doughnuts every morning at 5:00 A.M. to study.

At times students would have problems with a certain aspect of Hebrew, and they would ask me about it. I always responded – have you prayed about it? They always answered – no. So, I would tell them to pray about it, and then what they needed to know would come easily. It worked every time…. always.

Knowledge is a gift from God – so I pray for it all the time, and on anything I need to know, but I am amazed the extent to which Christians do not understand this. But that is a thread in itself for somewhere else.

I just read biblical Hebrew. I do not speak or write Hebrew or know modern Hebrew – and I have doubts I could learn it – the speed is a problem for one thing. However, no doubt, if I actually prayed about it, something would happen. But I gave up doughnuts.
