Hey! Thanks for asking... actually, I would say the "Teach Yourself" series is the best one. It has versions for loads of languages and for many different levels and purposes (not just 2 or 3). So total begginers or people who just want to polish their grammar can find the right thing for them. Usually the packages come with a book and 1 or 2 CDs. Any major bookstore should carry them... they're in a clear, plastic package with yellow, white and black graphics/writing. I've used them to help improve my French and they were great. Good luck!! and keep us posted on how you're doing :)

I think part of the problem (at least in Canada) is that the focus is heavily on written, not oral french. Honestly, it makes far more sense to be able to speak fluently than to write fluently, as you will speak it more (at least here in Canada, if you work in a bilingual establishment.

Practice is the only way....to get good, just stick with it....I'm not great yet, but I'm in the IB program, so I have to take enhanced level french for the duration of my high school career, so I guess I will get better! Hum....I should go review my french notes before I get back to school, eh?

God Bless,

Eric

When I was studying, about a million years ago now, I loved the "French in Action" series on PBS. At school I learned grammar and stilted convrsation, and then the series helped me learn to understand rapidly spoken French and normal conversations.

I think the best way to learn when you have a connection to the internet, is find chatting pals that are fluent. That's how I learned most of the languages I've been studying. Practicing is the best way...

(Btw I think my IM infos are on my profile)
