Learning about Lutheranism

Hi welcome to the Lutheran Chruch! I was raised a Southern Baptist and went to a Reformed Presbyterian for the last 5 years up until last year. We joined our only local LCMS Church. It is small but we like it. Its been a journey for me to wind up Lutheran. My wife was raised Lutheran and that helped even though we were baptists the first 6 years of marriage.

All churches even of the same type have a different feel to them. Keep visiting you will find one you feel is right. It just takes time. I'd say in St. Louis there should be alot of Lutheran Churches to choose from. When you are where you are supposed to be at you will feel at "home".

I downloaded all these podcasts from Concordia on theology, dogmatics, the confessions, history of the church. I listened to them driving back and forth from work, at lunch, working in the yard. Then, I purchased Pieper's Christian Dogmatics (rough set to plow through!), the Lutheran Study Bible, Small and Large Cat., Book of Concord, Lutheranism 101 plus a few smaller titles. Read and studied all those. I'm sold on it.

Here's a new companion book for Lutheranism 101.

Welcome to the Forum, I was not raised in the church, when I married and had kids I went to a Christian Church but when my kids started going to a Lutheran School, I joined the church. After having 2 open heart surgeries I am working on the WELS Bible Commentary on different books of the Bible. I just finished Isiah and have started on Matthew. The Bible Commentaries have been very informative. I have been a LCMS for 40 years.

Here's a more comprehensive study of Lutheranism that is free to view and download. It can also be purchased online for around $15. It goes into more explanation of the sacraments than Lutheran 101. The author is Dr. Lawrence L White at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Houston Texas. LCMS

I can't post links but lets try this.
