  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

we aren't strict on having a drink or two like Baptists or anything

You're kidding aren't you? Over here the Baptist are strict non-drinkers and non-gamblers.

What gets me is that children who grow up in a household where alcohol is accepted seem to be less likely to become drunken sots than those who grow up in 'anti-alcohol' households. Deny someone something and what will they crave?

The other thing I've noticed is that we place more emphasis on the behaviour of a drunk being the person's fault, where many a non-drinker is quick to blame ther alcohol .

I bet the guy with the original post saying Catholic weddings were a blast to get ripped at is the same guy who complains about having to sit through a WHOLE LONG HOUR for a Catholic wedding mass.

I also agree that because drinking is allowed at all that it gets exaggerated (likely in anger) to portray that we're alcoholics.

This came up in a discussion in the Guys forum,

Catholics are prone to alchool? I know Irish have the reputation, and many Irish are Catholic (like myself), but do Catholics in general have a reputation for drinking?
That's what my mom told me. She's like, " Travis, the Catholics are all a bunch of drunk gamblers." I couldn't believe she actually thought that Catholics advocate drinking and gambling.
