Undoubtedly. And many of the doctrines affirmed at Trent were already canonized by the Great (Fourth) Lateran Council during late medieval period. On the defense of Trent, it was really a council to 'restate' what the Church was about and a call or awakening to the faithful of the Church who had problems with all the anarchy of the times...and needed to know what was up...so to speak.
It was a needed a council, because of all of the confusion.
What greatly saddens me about Trent is that the Lutherans and Reformed were not invited to present and defend their views. The theology of the reformers was greatly mischaracterized by the proceedings of the council, which is one reason why the anathemas of the canons have been described as the 'shotgun approach'- some of the anathemas perfectly describe the conflict, and others completely miss the mark.
