  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Just curious on something...

If a mainline Christian (i.e. Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant, etc.) is baptized in his/her church, then decides to join the lds church, is his/her mainline Christian baptism recognized by the lds church? If not, why not?

I was baptized in Orthodox church. I had to be baptized in LDS Church.

Man who baptized me in Orthodox church did not have authority/priesthood from God. This is the reason.

It is like I was not baptized at all.
BTW, I was baptized by sprinkling. It is wrong way. I also was baptized for a wrong reason. I was 7 and my baby cousin was baptized. I was jealous. I said: "I want to be baptized too." I had no idea what it means. Nobody bothered to explain it to me. I am not sure I even knew about Christ at that time. A year later I even was arguing with my great grandma that there was no God. I was an atheist until I was 19 years old.

Their commitment to Christ is recognized. However, their baptism was never valid because their baptizer had no authority from God. They must be baptized by one in authority.

Thank you. Since it is a matter of having the proper "authority", would it safe to assume that the lds believe no other non-lds church today has this authority?

Did anyone explain to you what it means now?
Yes, of course. I know what it means to be baptized and WHY I have to be baptized.
When missionaries were teaching me about baptism I had conviction (I compare it with intuition) that I HAVE to be baptized. I felt that it would be very, very important for me. I didn't have my testimony about Joseph Smith yet at that moment but I had my testimony that I HAVE to make this choice - to be baptized. I couldn't explain why I felt this way, why I was convinced. But I followed this conviction/ inspiration. I have to say that I have never regretted. That was the most important decision I have ever made in my life.
What can be more important in this life than to make covenant with God and help others to do the same?

Yes, only those who belong to Christ's Church can have this authority. Men made churches are not Christ's Church. This is what we strongly believe.

So what of those who have been baptized into CHRIST by the baptism which does not come from a man?

Where do these belong?
Those who were not baptized in Christ's true Church do NOT belong to His Church. They are not God's chosen people - house of Israel.

Incorrect.
Everyone will have the opportunity to hear of Christ and be baptized by the proper authority.

Why is the Pastor of my church not the proper authority?

Secondly, who say you need some sort of authority to baptize someone? All you need to do is be a christian.

....keeping in mind baptism is not a requirement for salvation.
