I was one of the first baby boomers and, I don't know about other congregations of my youth, but in our church there was extensive catechizes. I think we were a product of our times. With hippies, drugs and free love and student demonstrations our parents were tearing their hair out. We were the generation that was taught to think for ourselves and we felt we were not tied to the old traditions........our at least so we thought.
We were the "me" generation. We expanded out knowledge and thought we knew everything. We made great strides but we did one thing that was unforgivable. We sold our souls for the "money" chase and our kids payed for it. Some of us retained our traditional values but there were far more that didn't. We compromised our values so that we could "keep up with the Jonese".
It's not so much ADD Scott as being lulled into the security of making money and living under the false impression that everything will be alright. We didn't want anything to shatter our dreams so we ignored the warnings.
