• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes,sometimes I think the way you do. The sticking point, though, is so many non-Lutherans do not believe in the Real Presence. My relatives that are not Lutheran do not. (See my other post)
They believe it is a memorial meal only. (I have had debates with them).

Where God's Word is concerned, even our reason must be held captive to the Word of God. As Lutherans we don't disagree with the Word, rather, we try to study and understand it, wrestle with it. Of course there will be teachings we, as sinful human beings, don't like or don't see the logic in, i.e. Women's roles in the Church. In those cases it is critical that we study and learn vs hold opinions that are not Biblical.

I doubt whether this will ever happen in this life time.
I am an old member here and a former staffer. I've been a WELS member for 60 years or more. WELS has had many past meeting with the LCMS but instead of drawing us closer the LCMS drifted away even farther from Luther's teachings and from some key teachings in the bible. Some of those have already been mentioned in this thread.
Look for a book by John Brug named Church Fellowship. If memory serves me correctly there is another named "Whats going on Among The Lutherans? You may be able to find these at Amazon or www.WELS.net at Northwest Publishing.

To be fair, the newest WELS Service book shows a trend away from the traditionaly formula of the Lutheran Divine service, While LCMS and LCC's newest service book is more of a restoration than a new book; Luther certainly did not shun the traditional formula of the Mass; rather he refined it.
