  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

One aspect of the LCMS that I love is how much the synod offers its congregations. A simple, free Bible study worth looking at.

"A Bible study written by the Rev. Timothy Pauls is available in preparation for the 68th Regular Convention of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, which will be held July 29–Aug. 3, 2023, in Milwaukee. The study delves into the convention theme, “We Preach Christ Crucified,” based on 1 Cor. 1:18–25.

The five-part study leads participants to understand how Scripture defines the Gospel, how the apostles proclaimed it in the Book of Acts and how continuing this proclamation is the church’s ongoing task.

Congregations and groups are invited to utilize the Bible study as they join other believers in proclaiming Christ crucified to the world."

Yours in the Lord,

jm

I'm glad to see this being distributed for free. I have a copy of the Witness, Mercy, Life Together study which was prepared for the convention maybe 3 cycles past. Those had to be purchased in a soft cover.
