The Apostle Paul lists "Laying on of Hands" as one of the foundational doctrines of the Word of God.

Hebrews 6
1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

Of all the fundamental doctrines of Christ, this is the most ignored. Asked to list the major doctrines of the Christian faith, how many would include the laying on of hands? This is indicative of the lack of understanding and priority we have concerning Christian Doctrine.

Hi hobart schmedly,

I've always wondered what exactlly was to be understood in the laying on of hands. I have an idea but I was wondering what your thoughts are on the subject?

Blessings to you in Christ,
John

Luke 4
40When the sun was setting, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them. 41Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, "You are the Son of God!" But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Christ

Acts 8
17Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
18When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money 19and said, "Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit."

1 Timothy 5

21I charge you, in the sight of God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, to keep these instructions without partiality, and to do nothing out of favoritism.
22Do not be hasty in the laying on of hands, and do not share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure.

2 Timothy 1
6For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

I believe when one has the Power of the Spirit of God living and working from within, God is glorified through his laying of hands upon another. Whether it be they receive healing, the Holy Spirit, or whatever the blessing of God. The laying on of Power that comes from the laying on of hands is that of the Holy Spirit.

It’s not in the Catholic Church and has always been celebrated for the past 2000 years. The laying on of hands is a charism of the Holy Spirit that Christ gave to his apostles we he sent them out to teach and baptize in his name. Peter instituted this sacrament and it has been practiced in the Church ever since in both the east and the western Church.

The sacrament of confirmation is the laying on of hands in the Catholic Church where we are sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit by the bishop laying hands on us.

The bible speaks of the power that is received through the laying on of hands and if we will be open to the Holy Spirit's inspiration God may manifest these gifts in us to further build up the body of Christ.
