When I was a kid, my mom would make us sno-cones with real snow and vanilla.

There was a family recipe for something called snow cream. It's lost now, and I can only remember it involved vanilla, and I marveled that it didn't immediately melt the snow.

It is a slush. What I had was too thick for a straw. Until it melts enough, it’s eaten with a long-handled ice cream spoon.
