  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Read Matthew 26:26-30....

Matt_26:26 Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread and, praising God, gave thanks and asked Him to bless it to their use, and when He had broken it, He gave it to the disciples and said, Take, eat; this is My body.
Matt_26:27 And He took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, Drink of it, all of you;
Matt_26:28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which [ratifies the agreement and] is being poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. [Exod. 24:6-8.]
Matt_26:29 I say to you, I shall not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it with you new and of superior quality in My Father's kingdom.
Matt_26:30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

Normal passage when you just read through it, but I noticed something I hadn't considered before: Jesus's mindset.

Jesus knew good and well what He was about to go through. He knew that the breakin of the bread was symbolic of the breaking of His body. He also knew that the wine was a symbol of His blood which would be shed very soon. Even more than that He knew He would be betrayed when He went to the Mount of Olives.

So what is He doing this night before? We see in verses 26, 27 and 30 that He was giving thanks and singing hymns! I hadn't ever considered that really deeply before... Here is Jesus knowing He is about to be killed mercilessly and be betrayed by one of His 12 closest friends, and He sits there giving thanks for the breaking of His body and shedding of His blood, and singing hymns on His way to be betrayed.

How much love does Jesus have for us that He would give thanks and sing hymns for the opportunity to give His body for us?

Good insight and good point to all of us. When we struggle in the world of injustice and sin, we are to remember to be servants, trusting God, and praising Him in the face of adversity. Jesus is always an example of HOW to walk in the light.
