  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Soon enough, after a number of turns, the red pickup found Ryan's house. It was small compared to the other buildings in New York, but small meant less places for Them to hide should they find their way in, which was exactly what was ailing them as of late. The door stood open, darkness within.

Ryan stepped out of the truck and threw the door shut behind him, cradling his shotgun on his forearm. "Here is is," he mumbled.

"So this is it?" It was small, which only made Liesel appreciate her spacious Wal-Mart. Spacious and safe. They had never broken into it.

She stepped out of the truck, closing the door quietly and cradling a rifle and a pistol. One box of ammo occupied each hip pocket of her jeans, giving her a faint sense of security. The night seemed to press around her, alive with the undead.

Ryan sensed something in Liesel's voice that bordered on disappointment, as though she expected some hotel or something. "Yeah, this is it."

He made his way arounf the front of the truck to meet her as she made her way toward the house. Lightly guiding her with a hand on her back, he walked backward at times to watch the darkness. Here's when the game begins, Ryan, the voice that was his own told him. He shook his head and refused to his mind's attempt to scare him. It reminded him of a horror movie, but he could not remember which one, for his only thought was to get in the house. "Hurry." he told her.

Sierra grabbed the lantern and followed after Wylie, helping her to lock up. Once they were finished, she looked at Wylie and shook her head. "No. I'm not claustrophobic." She then turned to follow Wylie back toward her little room.

Soon, Liesel and Ryan were both inside Ryan's house. Once through the door, he turned to lock it and breath a sigh of relief. An steel crossbar sat neatly on hooks screwed into either wall like a door from the Middle Ages. Looking at Liesel, he shrugged. "It was the best I could think of that first week, and it worked; never got around to finding something better."

After a moment of listening at the door, he proceeded down the hallway with her. It went a ways with a painting of a bowl of fruit at the end, slightly crooked. A closet was first on the right, then a study, and a basement. On the left were two bedrooms and an archway leading into the kitchen and dining room. "I won't say something stupid like 'make yourself at home', but you get the idea." He made his way through the hall to the open basement door, flipping on the light as he made his way down the noisy stairs.

Liesel was just staring at the crossbar when Ryan explained its purpose: "It was the best I could think of that first week, and it worked; never got around to finding something better."

She shrugged. "Hey, whatever works."

He led her through the house, which seemed to be uninhabited. But Liesel knew Them. They sometimes hid behind the nearest solid object, waiting to jump out at you when you least expected it. Tense and alert, she noticed everything she could, awakening within her a sense of longing. Here was a house--a real house, not a personalized department store, with a kitchen and dining room and bedrooms. She couldn't help remembering life before the Day, before she grew up and lived with her parents in their large country house....

A passing shadow snapped her back to the present, and she turned to Ryan to comment on it, but he was already on his way downstairs. Nervous and jittery, she followed.

Owen felt like shouting out every time Justin made a sudden move with the powerful car, which was quite often. But he managed to keep his tongue bitten as he held on to his seat, although he had to keep letting go to cover his eyes from the horrors he kept seeing. Suddenly, after a slamming force of G's, he opened his eyes enough to notice they had driven into a building. He heard a faint hiss and was adjusting to the light change when the man abruptly shut down the car and got out. Owen was stunned, but he quickly recovered and scrambled out of the car.

"Hey, wait!" Owen called after the man. "You can't just save me and ditch me! What's going on!" He chased after him, taking the stairs two at a time. "DUDE! What did you even save me for? I was toast! Since you've gone to all that trouble, you could at least explain why you did it!"

((Maybe we should skip or something. I'm just at a loss))

The quiet mountain of a man turned, face stoic. Finally, his lips parted and his first sounds came forth. "You were there." Then he turned again and continued down the narrow downward-sloping concrete hallway. It was implied bluntly in his tone that if Owen had not happened to be there at that time in the way of his revenge, he would have gladly let the stranger die. At the end of the dimly lit hallway was a narrow door, just barely wide enough for Justin to squeeze through. One paw of a hand swung backwards, slamming the door shut mere moments after Owen followed. Behind them, the automatic whirring and clicking of the locking door echoed through the room. Actually, the room was nothing more than a small closet, a tiny space before the next, larger door. This door was the most formidable of all, and when it closed behind the two it was with a bone-jarring boom.

In front of them sprawled a spartan dwelling, the walls concrete with no paint or decoration of any kind. Against the right wall was a monstrous stove, large enough to cook an entire deer. In front of the stove was a navy blue ratty sofa with some of the stuffing sticking out of the cushions. On the opposite wall behind the couch was a gun rack, emblazoned with weapons of all sorts- from rifles to bazookas- with a smaller knife rack beneath. Other than the small rug between the sofa and the stove, that was it. Several doors led off to other various parts of the bunker, but nothing else could be seen.

Justin strode through the left-most door to the left of the stove and slammed it shut.

((He won't be back for a little bit, so make yourself at home))

The stairs cried out in agony as the two wnt down the narrow way, cold light greeting them from below and giving their eyes the locations of the steps. The basement was small, with crates in one corner and a table shoved clumsily into another. A naked bulb hung above on a chain. Beside the table was a high-end amplifier, a black guitar leaning against it. Out of his pocket Ryan brought the packets of strings, and set them on the table with his shotgun. A picture frame on the opposite side of the room was shattered though still on the wall, clear punctures indicating bullets. Odd things were in various places around the room, such as a broken pool stick, a poster from the seventies, and a boombox.

Sighing, Ryan sat down on the table and began to fiddle with the shotgun, unloading the ammunition and then reloading it all. "Well, this is it. Not much like your WalMart manision-" he grinned at her, "-but enough. Now what?"

Smiling, Liesel shrugged. "Whatever, I guess. I don't hear Them....do you?" She kept standing and gripped the rifle tightly, listening for the telltale sound of heavy feet above.

((I thought all electricity had been turned off since most of the population disappeared....unless his house is on a generator or something?))
