  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There are always trade-offs. A desktop PC can be loaded up with extra drives, etcetera, will be easier to upgrade (if you want, say, a new video card), and will be cheaper.

So, for instance, my main personal computer is a laptop, but all my email goes to a server in the basement, and I check it remotely. Best of both worlds.

Technically the war of laptops began this year.
I own a $2400 notebook, here's the specs:

Dell Inspirion 8200 series Notebook
1.8Ghz Intel P4
512 Mb DDR
64 Mb DDR nVidia GeForce 440 Go 4x AGP
30 Gb HDD
CD-RW / DVD Combo drive
15.7'' LCD Screen
Internal 56k and 100/10 base T 3com nic

Most of which the money went towards accidental insurance for 3 years ;)

The thing is what exactly do you do and plan to do in the future. Inspirions are the first on the line for extreme customization, i.e. yes, you can upgrade the video, the cpu, the memory, the modem with interchangable parts to be done by Dell.

PC Gamer has also released information on Alienware's notebook designs that have actual desktop CPU's installed. (Crazy!) but the downfall was only a 30 minuite battery, lol.

I never had a notebook before but I highly recommend getting one but hold off on getting one until the prices start falling in the middle of the war. ;)
