Please cast your vote in the poll. I'm curious if we can get any meaningful data from the sample here on CF.
Dude, why do I feel like you made this thread just to troll Mehguy?

Who cares what an "ideal height" is in theory? For the right guy, most of us don't really care that much and we will even get "over it" even if he is shorter than us. If we love our heels more than you, then we aren't worth the effort.

Aren't tall guys supposed to be more appealing? I hope so, lol. I'm 6'1.

6'2 here - weirdly, despite living in a country which exclusively uses the metric system, I still think of my height in imperial units first and it takes a moment to remember that I'm 1.88m.

As for the poll, wouldn't it have been better for the options to be a range rather than specific heights? It's entirely possible that women might prefer someone over six foot, but less likely that they'd want exactly 6'1 or 6'3.

There should have been an "I don't care or no preference" option. I have liked tall guys (over 6 ft) and I have liked short guys (5'5" or 5'6"). I think it would be a bit odd if I was a foot taller than the guy. I am tall but as long as a guy doesn't have an issue with my height then I don't have an issue with his.

Hey, I like tall girls. :D

There's something cool about dating someone your own height. It's way underrated.

You'd be surprised. I've encountered plenty of women who rule out guys under a certain height. I'm 5'11, and sometimes even that is too short for them.

This British site suggests that men aren't interested in women over 6' and women aren't interested in men under 5'4. In my experience the women I've encountered won't even go that low. But this is all to point out that many women do have some concept of an ideal, even if societal pressure forces them to deny it and claim they "don't care".

Well as long as both genders feel comfortable expressing their ideals. I have actually read sites that make an arguement that while we should practice body acceptence it should still be ok to make height an issue for men. To me that is one sided and unfair. As far as ideals go, there should be checks and balances. I have read studies about biology and there are plenty of issues just as important for men when looking for a woman.

I think the pressures of society are quite the opposite. Culturally speaking what is "acceptable" is a short woman with a tall man. The man should always be taller. Hollywood, magazines, books, etc all push this stereotype....or maybe that is just my jaded view. I do not believe a man should be judged by his height any more than a woman should.

The "younger" women are more likely to hold on to their "ideal height" but as they mature, the women that are not just into looks (the ones who would make good wives) will start to realize that height is just a number. If the woman is stuck on "no one shorter than....", then she is also more likely going to measure your worth by the thickness of your wallet and your success based on what car you are driving. Yes, if we have a fantasy ideal ... be it height, eye color, or skin color...it might take a little while to work through the initial internal conflict but usually attraction and eventually love will take over if it exists. This is the same as men having an ideal body type....such as a breast size or number of curves. It might take a little longer to get to the point where you start to see the inner person.

I am shorter. I come from a family where my dad was the shortest man in his family at 6'1" ... and because the family joke was "he is short", I really grew up with the imagine that my dad was short for a man..or at least very average. I did date a boy man who was 6'2" at one time because that felt "normal" for me, but I quickly realized that I didn't like the way it felt to always have him stooping over me when we stood and talked...and to dance meant I wasn't even able to see over his shoulder. A hug meant my face was in his armpit (ugh). My husband was 5'10" when we first dated and he had one last growth spurt right before his 20th birthday that made him 6'. To me that was "ideal" because I just loved to be near him. The men I have dated since he died have ranged from 5'6" to one over 6'. Personally, I like the men on the shorter range because it is kind of nice to have their face close to mine when we talk or sit on a couch side by side. It it actually feels more intimidate. I have also known women who have thought they wanted a tall man then had to struggle through the mental struggle when they feel in love with a "short guy". They guy always won if the woman wasn't shallow. And once they "got there" mentally, they really never cared again.

The only time it is a handicap is getting that first date (no different that a girl whose figure isn't a size 4 w/ a "C" cup)... so if you like a tall(er) girl, turn up the romance and charm her pants off so she can't say "no" to that first date. And if that isn't good enough, assume you were saved from a life of "keeping up with the Jones".

I voted 6'1" as the ideal height. However, I'd say that somewhere between 5'10"-6'2" is the average ideal range. I've always preferred taller guys, but then again, I'm only 5'1", so even a short guy is tall in comparison:D

Wow, you're only 5'1"? for some reason I coulda swore you were at least 5'7" or 5'8".

I think it probably varies for most women based on the woman's own height.

I'm 5'7", so for me I like someone who ranges from 5'11" to 6'1". If I had to really choose, I'd go with closer to 5'11".
