• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is a frustrating problem because if you have ocd it is easy to use OCD as a scape goat for some of youre most serious concerns .. It is also an issue when for example you go see youre pastor about something you have read in scripture and because he knows you have OCD every answer he gives you is prejudiced because he knows you have it ... He makes an unfounded assumption that every one of youre spiritual concerns is rooted in OCD ..
That to me is dangerous and honestly produces ill feelings towards the pastor or whomever does this ...

Every concern that an OCD sufferer has is not OCD related ..

Until the OCD is under control, questions and concerns about God are extremely difficult to deal with. Once it is controlled, questions make more sense as do the answers one is given.

While deep in the OCD circle, unfortunately, it's almost impossible to really comprehend the answers a pastor or any other Christian may give. I visited pastors so much, and questioned them so much.....but the answers they gave never lasted very long, before new and more scary questions followed right behind. I did this for 8yrs. I thought I could figure it all out and some day get it all straight in my head....but that never happened.

I don't need to tell you what worked for me. I know it bothers you very much that it did work for me. But therapy works. God used it to save my life.

Where do you get the idea that i don't like it because it worked for you .. I never said that .... that is just silly .

I understand where you are coming from andrew. I believe if we are not careful we can blame ocd for all our problems but I think what seajoy means is that everything that happens to us has to be filtered unfortunately through a mind that is affected by ocd and that in many of us we need outside people and meds to help bring things into proper focus. I believe God is all we really need but sometimes God puts medications and therapists and counselors in our lives to bring about what He wants for us. I hope this makes sense. I'm not good at saying things through a keypad. I just don't want to see people fuss with one another on a site intended to help others.

Hey andrew,
I agree with the idea of making waves about something if it goes against scripture. I have seen an occasional post before that went against the Bible and I nicely stated in my reply that I did not agree with what was said. However, the way someone deals with their ocd will obviously differ from the next person and they could both be right. Some things depend on a persons personality and how bad they are suffering as to what they need to do to get better. Had I known what was wrong with me when I first had these battles and a place to go where there were people going through the same things I probably could have been ok in no time with little help. But unfortunately I had to go about 5 or 6 years (with full blown religious ocd) before I even knew it had a name. In that time of suffering I messed myself up so bad mentally that I am still trying to find out which way is up. I just don't think you should argue about how someone handles there ocd as long as it doesn't go against scripture. Didn't mean to upset you. Sorry.
