Lab or Rotweiler?

Labs are notorious chewers. They also require a lot of physical exercise or they can be very destructive. I can't see getting a lab if they are only going to be out in the yard a couple of times a day. Rotties do require exercise but not at the level that a lab does and rotties can be very loving family dogs and are wonderful with children if they are raised with them. Either way, best wishes.

our lab doesnt chew anything, also she has never been destructive and only has one 10 minuite walk a day, but then i spose labs can be different, depends how they r bought up really. if your strict with them at an early age ..they soon learn and are lovely

You are blessed to have such an exceptional lab! I had some friends who had one and in spite of working with a trainer, they had to give the dog up because of its destructive behaviour. Usually if they are well worked they are less destructive but only being out in the yard a couple of times a day won't do the trick for the majority of labs.

hehe, my best friends lil bro was a few months old wen he came round for the first time and remmie was reeally gentle with him. also we r getting 2 new kittens on saturday sop i hope she will be gentle with them!! hehe

I think that Remmie and the kitties will be fast friends. Labs are usually very good with other pets.

Rotts, pitbulls etcc.. require a firm hand. The mean one's are mean because of abuse. They are no more likely to turn on you, if raised correctly, no more than any other breed.

Sorry, Dear, but I believe you are in error, LOL. My MIL's lab is useless as a watchdog, and is more likely to run away than protect anyone or anything in the household. My 2 friends with Labs say their dogs are not good watchdogs--and having met the dogs, I believe it. They are right--the dogs are not good watchdogs, nor are they protective. This is not a breed I would care to depend on for protection. I think some can be . . . but it's not something I'd bet on.

I agree, generally speaking... labs, goldens are not very good watch dogs. Are there exceptions to the rule - yes - I have seen some that are very attentive to thier surroundings and will bark when someone comes on your property.

However, those are the exceptions. labs and goldens in general would be more apt to not raise a fuss.

The good thing about rotts is their reputation - they have been portrayed as mean - so people tend to be afraid of them. So thatis a benefit.

Unless you know where the lab is coming from and it's parents etc.. are "watchdogs" I would not be t on it either.

Defenetly a Labrador, Specially the Chocolate or Yellow colored ones.. they're a beautiful pet, people say they're the best pet for the children, and soon I will get one. Too bad They're so hard to find

Lab.....They are a very beauiful dog! My daughter had one,and it's very true,the lab's love children. With all dogs of all breeds,it's how you raise them that make them gentle or aggressive creatures. Good luck with your choice!

I have a 7yr old rottie and she's been with me since she was 3 mos old. She had 9 pups on her first litter and 11 on the second batch of litters. I never had problems with her temperament even when she just gave birth inside my house considering there are kids in the family. My rottie lets any member of the family cuddle her pups, yes including kids and friends. Point is, you may hear terrifying things about rotties but i think it's how they were brought up or trained. You can have a labrador and train it to bite which takes away the friendly image that everyone knows about it.

Rotties are gently creatures. believe it or not, my rottie would only bite if and only if one member of the family needs protection. most of the time she's just running around playing with the kids.

What area do you live in? Our local shelter is absolutly overcrowded with Labs right now, most of which are purebreeds.
