  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've known for some time that Kwanzaa was a made-up holiday. But just how "made up" and how political and outright racist I didn't know until I read this: The Many Falsehoods of Kwanzaa

The original goal was to divide white and black Christians, apparently.

I jut went to a Kwanzaa celebration, no mention of dividing whites and blacks, in fact there were white people there. The celebration was at my sister's house. The theme of their Kwanzaa celebration this year, how to keep the family together.

Imagine that, the horror, and so racist.

Why does it offend/scare white people so much when black people celebrate/attempt to empower themselves?

why would black people get scared / offended if white people have white pride / empower themselves?

That's different. When black people champion black pride and/or black power they are only raising their collective spirits or celebrating their unique heritage or some such. When any white even mentions the fact they are white, it can only be motivated by sheer hatred of everyone not like them.

But we as white people don't even have to mention it, we are racist simply by virtue of the fact we are white. Unless you are a liberal, then you get an exemption.

Just ask the DNC.

Very true. Obama had a coalition group, funded by the taxpayers, called "African Americans for Obama." What if we had a "White Americans for Ron Paul." Well that would just be racist of course.

Or a NAAWP?

I recently saw a writer, on her blog, encourage her readers to go out and support black authors by buying their books. What if a white writer, let's say J.K. Rowling, encouraged her readers to support white authors by buying their books. Oh my, the media would crucify her.

Anyway, we digress. To answer you response Praying, Sistrin is right, the article wasn't about you. It was about the origins of Kwanzaa and the man who started it and his intentions.

It isn't a race issue.

Why shouldn't Christians be against a holiday specifically made to take the focus away from Christ? The stated intention has always been to take away from Christmas and Hannukah. If it doesn't bother you at all to know its intended goal, fine. Some of us eat meat, some do not, as Paul says. Why, then, must you assume the worst of fellow believers if it does bother them?

Actually I personally could care less, but we all know that is not the same thing at all. Such false equivalency.

I have never been to any Kwanzaa celebration that even mentions Christianity, I have been to many with lots of Christians though.

All holidays are made up. That's kind of the point. We identify something special or significant about a date or time period, and we put a big "This is Now a Holiday" stamp on it.

I could write an article as long as that deconstructing Christmas. And you can easily, and people do this every year, make a case for Thanksgiving being racist.

Praying, once again, I'll point out what we're talking about.

1. Kwanzaa was DESIGNED to take away those who were celebrating Christmas. Period. That's said by its starter's own words.

2. It was designed by people who believed that there should be a culture war where blacks attack whites and they made Kwanzaa to be part of this.

Those are two facts. I wish you'd deal with those in a logical manner instead of defending it just because you've been duped by it. By your signature it also looks like you've been duped by this very, very bad President.
