  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Greetings!

As far as the "part" goes, I generally think it's kind of silly since genetics don't work that way. My one sister, for example, really takes after my dad's side, and doesn't look like she has any Cherokee in her. However, her daughter *really* shows her heritage. The only time I really have any sort of issue with it is when someone wants to use it for personal gain and can't prove they have actual tribal blood in them. *cough*Warren*cough*
It is silly. I agree.

Praying, once again, I'll point out what we're talking about.

1. Kwanzaa was DESIGNED to take away those who were celebrating Christmas. Period. That's said by its starter's own words.

2. It was designed by people who believed that there should be a culture war where blacks attack whites and they made Kwanzaa to be part of this.

Those are two facts. I wish you'd deal with those in a logical manner instead of defending it just because you've been duped by it. By your signature it also looks like you've been duped by this very, very bad President.

You mean like CHRISTMAS was designed to take away from pagen New Years celebrations? The intent being to compete with the pagan celebrations.

It is rather easy to find explainations of why the birth of Christ as depicted in Scripture is not compatable with being in December.

Black history month is a joke. There is European history, american history taught in high school lets have African American history a part of the curriculum also.

The fact is there are black children that know nothing about their own history. I don't think the average black Americans care if their history is known or taught to whites. However our children deserve the right to know their history.

It's sad I can have a black history conversation with a Jamaican drug dealer with no education and the typical high school black American has no idea.

By the way I don't celebrate it or Christmas I don't take part in celebrations that have no meaning.

It should be part of History as standard, as it all effects the overall history of the Nation.

To make it something seperate has always been silly.

We already discussed that in another thread, Daisy. After I proved her claim was wrong, ...
It was a trivial claim - it was something she believed because her family told her it was so. Again, she didn't seek to profit from it so why the slime campaign?

...you stopped responding. :mmh:
Yeah, it gets tedious going over the same things over and over.

Yeah, it gets tedious going over the same things over and over.

Which is why you kept insisting she was Cherokee until I posted something that refuted your "source." Okay. :bye: Back on topic.

Good point. I took American History in college and the curriculum was integrated. One of my favorite courses actually.

Kept insisting? Once you posted credible evidence, yes, I accepted that.

However, you have not shown that she didn't know, that she was not just believing what her family told her or that she tried to profit from that status.

Or a NAAWP?

There actually is a NAAWP but it looks like it's been co-opted by white supremecists. If there was a white advocacy group without the hate groups, I'd sign up.

I recently saw a writer, on her blog, encourage her readers to go out and support black authors by buying their books. What if a white writer, let's say J.K. Rowling, encouraged her readers to support white authors by buying their books. Oh my, the media would crucify her.

A TV show I watch features commericals by a black dating site called "BlackPeopleMeet.com". Can't imagine a white dating site.

I'd love to have a white TV network like BET is for blacks or an awards show for white people, like the various black and "Latino" award shows.

But if we do it, it's racist.

First, country music is a genre of music, not an ethnic or racial thing.

And BET is more of a cultural thing than a racial thing.

Second, there are black country artists.

BET airs white artists.

I haven't watched BET in a long time, but if I recall correctly, they basically show rap and r&b videos, black comedians, and sitcoms involving black families. It's not like if you switch through the channels, you'll have difficulty finding the equivalent for white people. It's pretty much every channel besides BET. I don't really understand what it is you're complaining about.

What does the "B" in BET stand for?

I don't really understand what it is you're complaining about.

I'm complaining about a double standard that says that blacks and "Latinos" can have TV networks, TV shows, magazines, dating services, business groups, political groups, beauty pageants, etc, that white people would be demonized for having.

There's no such thing as "black culture"?

How is that represented by the letter "B"? I never said anything about "black culture". I just asked you what the letter "B" in BET stands for.

I'm pretty sure white people already have all of those.

I look forward to seeing you try to name some examples.

And how can you say blacks and Latinos aren't demonized for having their own networks? Isn't that what you're doing right now?

Not at all. I'm just asking why there is a double standard.

I never said I had a problem with them having their own networks and I don't. I just want to know why there's a double standard that says it's OK for them to do so, but that it would be racist of us to do so.

The entire culture in the US was either run by whites or co-opted (music and dance co-opted from blacks just for starters) from other cultures to service whites for hundreds of years. That's more than an example.

That said, I do see your side of the argument. But you must keep these things in perspective.

Are you talking about the name of the network or the programming? If it's the latter, then you'll find that there are plenty of channels where white people and white culture are predominantly featured. So no double standard there. If you're upset that there's no "White Entertainment Television" channel, would you be relieved if BET changed to something like "Urban Entertainment Television"? It seems kind of silly to get so worked up over a name. And if there was a "White Entertainment Television" channel, what programming would they offer that isn't already widely available?

He's not worked up over the name. Be honest, how well do you think a WET channel would be received, regardless of what the content was?

Makes me think of this website I found the other day. It included such wonderful ideas like not allowing whites to dress up as Ninjas for Halloween, having an Asian Superman and a Hispanic Thor since there's too many movies about white characters from Marvel. :muahah:
