  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That would make a great word study "know God" in the following passage the greek for "they might know" is ginosko which is a hebrew idiom for sexual intercourse between a man and a women. In the old testement to 'Adam knew his wife Eve' man and woman become one flesh. In otherwords it is more than just having a brush with someone knowing is much more intimate. For myself it has to do with intimacy. Here is the verse I was speaking about.

Jhn 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

The only way to know God is through His Son and by the work of the Holy Spirit within us. We have to be active in this relationship.
If I were pursuing a lover I would spend much time with her, calling her on the phone, maybe sending flowers and just wanting to be with her. How much more so with my relationship with the Creator, my Father, my Lord Jesus the lover of my soul. Spending time in His word to find out about him and asking him to 'reveal' himself to me. It is not possible to know someone intimatly unless we spend quality time with Him. When I was babtised I stopped watching tv and took that time to spend in God's presence getting to know him. It was the best time, we cried together, laughed together and shared some great moments. Man did the tears roll. I asked him why do I cry so much? His answer was let it happen it is a part of the healing process, that made me cry even more, let the tears flow oh Lord let the flow. Waters of cleaning, it is good to know my Lord.
Enter into his presence with thanksgiving, open the gates and let the king of glory come in, and He will.

I've heard it said that wisdom is the application of knowledge. One of my favorite prayers is from Paul's letter to the Ephesians in ch. 1 when he says he continually prays for Spirit of wisdom and revelation for the church. That is what we need to have also to turn that "good book" knowledge into the Living Word that that changes our hearts, not just our minds.

As James puts it 'Be ye doers of the word and not hearers only. Faith is action. The Word is active and live not just letters joined together to tell a story. The Word of God mixed with faith, throough the power of the Holy Spirit can raise a dead mans life.

The WORD of God is very powerful. Just consider the Holy Spirit guiding us everyday when we read the Word of God to teach and lead our path. I believe without God's Word we will surely be lost. But God's plan is so perfect in our lives that He sets forth everything to work in order with His salvation plan for us. That we may be closer to Him in our walk here with Him.

But to say that everyone can read the Bible and know what it says. I don't think so. We take 3 different people to read the Bible without praying for guidance, and we get 3 different views. Worst if they are new believers who have never studied the Bible and never prayed for the Holy Spirit to guide them.

I believe it does make a difference in quoting the Bible with the right context and interpretation which only the Spirit enables one to.

In Relationship
Relationship is God knowing you.

For me, relationship is me -knowing- that God knows me. :) One can read the Bible but not believe it, not feel it, not live it. But in the way that conversation comes easy with an old friend, I am brought into deeper relationship with him simply by knowing that He is with me.

Whenever we have a PERSONAL relationship with someone, it should not be IDENTICAL to the relationship that others have, it should be UNIQUE (with idiosyncracies, our habits and attitudes, shortcomings, etc.).

I've known Christ for 23 years since I was 32.

The "depths of God" (1 Corinthians 2:10) are for all who rather have a "more excellent" devotion (1 Corinthians 12:31) that is based on "the greatest of these" (1 Corinthians 13:13) and a "faith for faith" (Romans 1:17, Hebrews 11:6).

The reason so many false beliefs have always been believed is "self abasement" (Colossians 2:18). SELF abasement does not only refer to 'putting yourself down' (belittling yourself), it refers to surrendering a true identity of SELF (identity abaTement). It becomes no longer possible to 'acheive consciousness' (realize a "SELF") and think/reason as a free thinking human being (it is dehumanizing/demoralizing). At that point, ANYTHING will be believed by the person regardless of whether it makes sense or not.

In order to relate to and identify with the creator (the heavenly father,..."I am who I am", Exodus 3:14), we must know and be who we are (establish a conscience). "I am who I am" (the father's "forever" name) sent His son to 'purify' the "flesh" (our mortal bodies), but just like all of the sacrifices offered in the old way of worship (old testament), the sacrifice of Jesus (lamb of God) on the cross could not make "perfect the conscience of the worshipper" (Hebrews 9:9). It is only by letting GOD'S SPIRIT "indwell" within OUR SPIRIT that God's eternal spirit can "purify your conscience"...

Hebrews 9:14
"the eternal spirit...purify your conscience".

There have been alot of partisan beliefs and protocol taught in the last 1950 years since the apostate church (church of man) began in Antioch, but GOD IS LOVE (THAT is what devotion is all about...loving GOD the creator and peaceful coexistence/peace and harmony...anything that disrupts peaceful coexistence is "EVIL"). "Loving" your fellow human being has always been explained with EMOTIONS and having a PERSONALITY of bleeding heart "compassion", but we should not love others MORE than we love ourselves, we should only love others AS we love ourselves (what sane, humble and emotionally stable person on earth has the need or desire to show love to themselves??). If and whenever we decide to give help/assistance to someone, we should not be giving it GRUDGINGLY, we should be giving it WILLINGLY/cheerfully.

In ancient Antioch, people from all walks of life (Jews, Greeks, Ethiopians, Palestinians, etc.) were learning a new devotion to God ('Jesus devotion') but were not completely able to shed/discard their old beliefs, practices, attitudes, traditions, idols, etc., so they all decided on a name that they could agree on...

Acts 11:26

"first called Christians".

In Acts 24:22, a Roman official (Felix) was talking to Paul about Paul's devotion to Jesus...

"But Felix, having a rather accurate knowledge of THE WAY...".

In John 14:6, Jesus said "I am THE WAY...".

The 'bible' (word not found in scripture) is the "doctrine of Christ" meant for the TRAINING (2 Timothy 3:16) of "babes in Christ" (1 Corinthians 3;1). In order to grow spiritually inside the body of Christ (mature in our devotion), we should learn to discern properly between what is good and what is 'not good' (evil). When we learn to have the discerning "sword"/understanding that a Godly person should have, we will have the "sword" of the spirit...

Ephesians 6:17
"sword of the spirit (which is the word of God)".

JESUS became the new worship temple (the OUTER temple/third temple, there should be no buildings/worship centers) in "three days" from crucifixion to ressurrection. WE each are the INNER temple...

John 2:19 and 21
"three days"...."He was speaking of the temple of HIS BODY".

WE are the INNER TEMPLE (1 Corinthians 3:16 and 6:19).

There should be no public prayer or "worship with lips"/sound...

Matthew 6:6
"But when you pray, go into your room AND SHUT THE DOOR...".

Amos 5:21
"I HATE, I despise your feasts and your solemn assemblies"...there should be NO worship buildings at all.

Jesus became our sabbath rest (no more sabbath DAY) because He did the "works of God" (John 6:28 and 9:3) and we should let His "works" be manifest in us so that we simply REST IN THE LORD [and be bored]. ALL of God's gifts (salvation included) are given GRACIOUSLY (not imperialistically) and nothing is expected in return.

The water that flowed with Christ's blood at the cross ("He came by water and blood", 1 John 5:6) is the "living" water of God's spirit that baptizes/consecrates the inner temple to the outer temple (Acts 1:5, John 7:38) so that we "neither thirst" (Revelation 7:16).

When we mature in our devotion, we can acknowledge the inner seed ("anointing") from our heritage (in effect, Godly common sense) and we will learn God's truth (needing no spiritual teachers,...teachers are only for "babes" that need training)...

1 John 2:27
"as His anointing teaches you about everything, and is TRUE".

The bible is not an authority of any kind (it is a helpful REFERENCE). It did not die on the cross or suffer pain..

Jesus said

Matthew 28:18
"ALL AUTHORITY in heaven and earth has been given to ME".

Colossians 2:9
"in His flesh, He ABOLISHED the law of commandments".

James 1:25
"the PERFECT law, the law of liberty".

James 2:12
"So speak and so act...".

Know God in a more friendly manner (the spirit of sonship, James 2:23) as "Abba Father" (dear father, Galatians 4:6) instead of as a slave/servant and their MASTER/taskmaster.

Let your love be perfected (1 John 4:18, Isaiah 29:13) so that you desire (instead of resent/fear) His correction when and IF He decides that you should learn the error of your way.

There are two kinds of sheep...

1) those of "the church of man" (they use 'book compliance' to "force the kingdom to come to them, Matthew 11:12) and must be forced/commanded to be righteous ('obey or else'...ultimatum).

and

2) those of the church of GOD.
................enter by the door.

The depths of God are for those who will remember the creator with fond memories (a "FRIEND" relationship...the spirit of sonship).

All verses are from the RSV.
