Susan, is this some form of satire/joke? If not:

I find the pro-ignorance trend of some forms of modern Christianity to be deeply disturbing and dangerous to the faithful.

Perhaps a look at Paul, who was a well-educated man, and not just in the scriptures, but in Greek philosophy too, might be of service.

Why don't you find a good christian collage to go to and study the Bible. They can help guide you in your seeking of the truth and help save you time that would be wasted trying to learn and grow on your own.

We do not need man to teach us, as we have the Holy Spirit. But a good teacher can help us learn how to be taught by the Spirit and how to yield ourselves to God.

A worldly education is only going to help you here in this world. This world is going to soon pass away. A lot of people work hard to get a good education and go onto to get a good job, so they can have a nice home, car and so forth. But the day will come when it will all burn up in fire and they will find themselves holding onto a handfull of ashes.

You are indeed wise to want to seek after the truth, because the word of God and the truth endures forever. The Bible tells us to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and He will provide for us all that we need. If we delight outselves in the Lord, then He will give us the desires of our heart.

I really do like how preschoolers tend to believe in God more than the older generations. We should start doing this as well! We should just believe without having to prove anything!

Test the spirits to see if they are of God. If learning is BAD then why teach anyone to read? But then how would anyone know what the Bible says?
Either you misunderstood the prophetic word, or it wasn't prophetic.

Jesus is more important than knowledge. That does not mean you do not grow to be ignorant. We see from Solomon's writings that wisdom is very important, but not to be put above God. Learn the things of the world, but do not let it overcloud time with God, because without Him, there is nothing but vanity.

What I saw in that post was that we need to have child like faith, but does not mean to be like a child. Because children do things with little or no thought to what they do. In Ephesians it says to be imitators of children, but not literaly. If then we would be acting like morons.

Without the education Paul received, he would have never been able to debate as he did with the Romans. There is nothing wrong in getting the best education possible and then using it for the Lord.
When I think of people that would get rid of education I get a little frightened. Many Godless regimes have killed the educated so they could control populations. Pol Pot in Cambodia comes to mind. I know that is extreme, but red flags go off for me when someone would go against education.

There is nothing I can say about your word for whoever it was intended for, but if it was a statement, I definately would not endorse it.

Pardon my bluntness, but there are just way too many ignorant Christians. As far as reaching the lost and giving someone love as they have experienced it from the father, that is just fine.

You are right in that there may be a time to put the extra stuff aside for a bit, but I think we need to move in the opposite direction. We need to know what we believe.

I have been involved in a non-Christian forum talking about god and another Christian forum. I must say that the Christians are so incredibly closed minded, it even turns me off to try and have to deal with the emotional, irrational, illogical statements made out of complete ignorance. No wonder many non-Christians think Christianity is for the weak! It is so frustrating. The Christians are the most closed minded people I have ever come across in the forums I have been in. And they always just want to run back to the default explaination... "Well, I don't really know, all I know is that Jesus loves me."

Even tho that is good and all, I am just getting tired of hearing it. And I am a Christian.

I am new here and I assume most Christians are here to learn.

Susan, why must you deny heliocentrism in order to be a good christian? Do you suffer of the same paranoia I have? Sometimes I feel like everything secular is wrong, even education. I don't know if it's God speaking to me or if I'm paranoid. Well, it's quite uncomfortable, because I enjoy learning.

But you know what? Perhaps I am just paranoid. Do you believe that, once, I even wrote an email with bad grammar, because I thought that was what God wanted me to do? No kidding. I guess I thought it was the christian way of doing things, since so many brazilian christians have bad grammar.

Maybe this whole "you must be ignorant to be a christian" thing is not true at all. I know that history, sociology, philosophy and other sciences can negatively affect our faith... for there are some good arguments against christianity. But if your faith is so weak that you're scared of learning for you may realise that it isn't real, then, well, then give up your faith already. I won't believe in something that can just be easily disproven...

But hey, I have faith in Jesus Christ, and have not yet seen a good reason to not believe, so don't worry.

I find the whole premise of "Ignorance means we are closer to God" to be fundamentally abhorrent!
