  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

List of Democratic Socialists of America public officeholders

List includes:
  1. 5 current House members
  2. 13 current Senate members
  3. 45 current lower house members.
This is for informational purposes only - 63 in congress are members of the Democratic Socialist of America.
So, here is the sad part of politics: How come this fringe group of far-left folks can get votes, but my pro-life guy, Peter Sonski, (part of a 3rd party) is not in any office? The DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) is not a party, but it seems to act very partisan from looking at that Wikipedia page.

What are "lower house members" and why do you think they are part of Congress? The United States Congress consists of the House of Representative and the Senate nothing else.

OK, I finally followed your link. I thought you could summarize it, but I was wrong.

There are *5* (five) DSA members in the US House of Representatives, none in the US Senate. That makes a total of 5 members of Congress. The rest of the listed people are either ex-members (8 members of Congress, or ex-members of Congress) or in STATE LEGISLATURES. There are literally thousands of people elected to the legislatures of the 50 states.

Mmm. But there are still 39 members of the far right Freedom Caucus in the House of Reps.

Glad we had this chance to check the balance of right v left.

Good idea.

Note that there are 39 members of the far right Freedom Caucus in the House of Reps. Likewise this is for info only.

My first thought was - so what? American ideas about socialism are, shall we say, eccentric. My second thought is that they are a small minority and are not in power - and never will be.

All political parties are to some extent coalitions. People with a variety of aims and opinions collaborate on a common platform, compromising to a degree on principles to achieve common ends. This applies equally to the Democratic Party and to the Republican Party. There are Democrats who subscribe to significant social measures and Republicans who want to abolish taxes.

It is for this reason that almost any discussion of politics has to include references to the various wings of the parties. Everybody knows this, so why make such a meal of it?
