  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've been knitting for years. I do alot of 4 needle mittens, and hats, but I would like to try a sweater for my daughter; one that isn't too hard, and knits up pretty fast.
Depending on your sense of style and what you think is cute on children, there are many different interesting patterns on the internet. I think Margaret Hubert's "Very Easy Child's Sweater and Hat" is adorable because of the bell shaped arms. Some people would probably not like it because it looks a little odd. But I saw it worked up in an earth tones variegated yarn with the sleeves extended to be sleeve-length, and it looked so adorable. It looked like something a hobbit child would wear. Of course, if I did have children, I'd probably have them all dressed up like oompa loompas. And my kids would not be too happy about it. lol. But it's such an easy pattern with almost no seams to join, so it would be an easy thing to work up just for fun and use up some yarn.

For something a little more trendy, there's always the knitty patterns:
Tigger
Boo

If you like classic styles, there's also some of that:
Accordion
Guppy Pullover (I think the guppy pullover is so adorable. But again, I'd dress my kids up like hobbits. hehe)

I would love to find a sweater pattern with a horse on it to be knit.:preach:
I haven't seen a horse sweater but I have a feeling that it wouldn't be too hard to come up with your own pattern, giving some thought to whether you are technically ready to do this kind of work, and also asking for some advice from experienced knitters on the internet.

You would need to have a basic sweater pattern that you like that has stockinette stitch at least on the front of the sweater where you want to put the picture of the horse. You'd also have to know how to do the colorwork called "intarsia". And then if you could draw your own graph or find a horse chart (look for horse filet charts or horse cross-stitch charts), then you would have to know how to place the intarsia work in the center of the chest area where you want it. For fun, you could just take a sweater already made (or knit one up), and then use "duplicate stitch" to create the same style of colorwork in a horse image. That's another easier possibility.

Here are some charts and links to help you get started:

Shona's Place Horse Charts
JPF Crochet Club's Horse "Filet Doily" chart

Intarsia Tutorial
Duplicate Stitch Tutorial

To Join an online knitters mailing list, where you can ask for advice on how to make a horse sweater, or even to ask if anyone has an existing horse sweater pattern:
KnitList (huge list of over 1000 members. better set your preferences to "digest", but you have a high probability of actually getting good answers to your questions there)

ColorKnitters (ask these folks about intarsia vs. duplicate stitch. they can help you learn!)

JustDoItKnits Fearless Knitters who like to know the technical ways of just doing whatever it is you want to create. Maybe they can tell you how to center a horse graph on a sweater.

GOOD LUCK! Hope it's possible to make that perfect horse sweater.

I think that first sweater is adorable. That would look really nice in a varigated yarn. Thanks for the links.
