  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Knitters for the Lord!

Hey, is there any knitters here? Do you annoint your knitted stuff like I do before you hand it out to people?
I have a supply of annointing oil I annoint the stuff with to keep away evil spirits and also to bring God's blessings on them. I beleive God uses it to help people where i live in Detroit. There was this old lady that lived in the apartment next to mine. One night, on the way to church, she was jumped by some evil men. One man tried to stab her, but the sweater saved her life-it was one of the sweaters I knitted and annointed!! There was a praise report that night, neighbor!

I do pray over what I make. . .but I've never anointed them.

I did once anoint with oil a computer disc that my aunt who is into really weird New Age type stuff had sent me. She said it had info on it from an expired relative. At the time, I had no means of playing the disc., and did not want to even if I could. So, I sent it back to her, thanking her, and telling her I could not use it. She sent me a pretty wierd and angry letter back. . .I figured her spirit was pretty surprised by the Spirit I sent back :)

I may do that from now on. . .anoint my gifts with prayer and oil. :)

how do you annoint stuff? and wow, how did the sweater save her from being stabbed???? that would be neat to hear!
Much the same way you would anoint someone with oil and pray for their healing. . .if your church does that. I have a little bottle of anointing oil (frankenscence) and you just put a little on your finger like when you dab on perfume. You then lay hands on the project and just pray blessings and God's favor go to whoever comes in contact with the project. I've also been known to use cooking oil too though. Oil is oil. Just the frankenscence smells better. :)

Interesting idea. I have never thought of doing that.

Does that mean that knitting can be considered a ministry lol.
Of course :D Scripture says, "Do everything as unto the Lord". And then in Rev Jesus said, "as you've done to the least you've done to Me".

i think in some places it is... some ministries or charities give out patterns and knitters donate stuff back for the needy :)
I've done that. The yarn shop gave me the yarn and the pattern and then the sweater went to a poor child.

That's cool, I'd love to get involved in something like that, I crochet instead of knit though
It should'nt make a difference Yalith. Ask your local yarn supplier if they have a program like that.

It has been fun reading this thread. I love to hear people sending blessings where they go. We need more of that in this world.

Some of you asked if knitting was a ministry. There are so many organizations that have volunteers who make things for needy people.

I am part of Newborns In Need in Dallas, TX. We make clothing items for the newborns and premies at Parkland Hospital. This hopsital delivers over 16,000 babies per year, more than any other hospital in the country and over 85% of these babies are born into poverty.

We have patterns for knitted and crochet hats, botties, afgans and more. All of these items go directly to the babies at Parkland and they get to take them home with them

Just think that if every baby got to take home a hat blessed by the Lord, how many lives the spirit of God would have an influence on...WOW!!!

Actually there is a program called a Shawl Ministry where knitters and crocheters make prayer/comfort shawls for people. I recently made such a shawl for one of my son's teachers who lost a baby. After the shawl was finished a friend and I gave people the opportunity to say a prayer for the teacher and her husband and tie a knot in the fringe at the ends of the shawl. This way they had an idea of just how many prayers and how much support they had in a very sad time.

For more information you can search "Shawl Ministry" on the 'net or find a copy of a recently released book call "Knitting the Mystery".
