  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ok so I get a knock on my door this a.m. to see that my neighbors nephews had brought over a kitten that is about 2-3 weeks old at the max. I ahve NO idea what to do??? It has fleas I do know that! I got some baby shampoo to bath it with & some flea powder. But how or what do I feed it? I have a grown cat myself but I didn't get it when It was this little. And I don't want my cat getting any kind of virus.

ANY advice would be appreciated!!

You need to take it to the vet ASAP.

I took in a stray about two months ago and she had some major problems that would have killed her, had we not taken her into the vet. You will also want to get her/him desexed at some point.

Whole eggs are good to give them, just one every so often. You can get some kitten food from the shops and give it that, also there's milk that's made for kittens that will give her vitamins and minerals etc that she/he needs. If you don't have time to get to the shops, you can mush up some wheetbix in milk (if you have wheetbix over there)

But yeah, my big advice would be to take her to the vet as soon as you can. You can get proper flea stuff from the vet too, and he/she can check over the kitten and make sure she is healthy. Also, keep the kitten away from your cat and away from where your cat likes to go. You don't want your cat getting fleas, or sick!

You are going to need kitty formula and a suitable bottle. You should be able to get those at a pet store. You will need to feed every 2 - 4 hours just like a human baby.
I would not use flea powder on that young a kitten and not human (even baby) shampoo. Use some orange peel under the bedding to deter fleas until it is old enough to handle flea products.
Keep it quarantined from your adult cat until you are get the ok from a vetrinarian.

The chances of survival are low and this will be a kitten with issues due to not being trained by it's mother. We have farm cats and kittens. The only ones we have suceeded in nursing to health are ones that were a little older and then one of them has a suckling problem.

Update: I got the kitten some formula & a bottle & the kitten is eating very very well. He/she also played some for awhile tongiht too. We have gotten most of the fleas off but there are still a few. Dawn dish soap was recommended by the Humane Society so we bather he/sh in that pretty good.

I do not know the time line for when kittens open thier eyes, walk, etc... so it is hard to say how old but I would not say any older than 3 weeks. I pray that she/he lives we are doing what we can.

Thanks sooooo much for the hlep!!!

God Bless each of you!

Good luck with this kitten. I would also keep a vets number handy. Bottle fed kittens tend to go downhill quickly if thy get sick. You won't be able to test for viruses until the kitten is 8 weeks old, minimum. At 3 weeks, the tests for FeLV and FIV aren't accurate.

Thanks again everyone!!!

I looked at the website that was given to me by moonkitty & I am thinking this kitten is older than I thought. It has teeth & it walks & plays but it is very very tiny. I am going to try to give it some kitten food mixed with this milk or water & see if it will eat.

Thanks again

One more question: Would I need to wait to let it around our cat?

I would wait to be on the safe side. FIV doesn't pass easily (only through very deep, penetrating bites or mating), FeLV can sometimes pass easily and that's the one I would be most scared of, though if your cat is a healthy adult and has been vaccinated, I would be surprised if it caught anything from this kitten. Always better to be safe than sorry though.
