Seriously, why do you people who are completely against anything that doesn't "praise God" bother posting on the secular forums? It's a waste of everyone's time to have people preaching about their PERSONAL OPINIONS.

I got news for you. 98% of the Christian artists you listen to, listen to secular music themselves. A lot of them listen to KISS.

It's Gene who is demonic for example his nickname is the demon and he also said how his childhood hero's were king kong, batman and satan.

First, Gene's nickname isn't the Demon, "the Demon" is the name of the character he plays onstage.

Second, if you ever see the clip from his show where he says that his heroes were "King Kong, Batman, and Satan", it's clear that he isn't the one who said it.

When you see the clip, the interviewer asked him how he came up with the character, he says, "growing up, my heroes were King Kong, Batman..."

While he pauses for the interviewer to continue, it is his son, sitting next to him, who interjects "and Satan!", not Gene.

Gene then nods condescendingly and says, "OK. And Satan". When you see the clip, it is clear that he's horsing around with his son and not giving a serious answer to the question.

And he didnt write the lyrics it was Paul Stanley.

Actually, he wrote or co-wrote many of their songs.

I happen to really like the band KISS i just cant stop listening to their music. My mom keeps saying their demonic but back then they were considered demonic they dont really sing about demonic stuff though. I think it is just Gene Simmons. If you know alot about this band please tell me cause if they really are demonic then i am gonna feel terribly bad for like'ing them.

Well, the Bible tells us that all who sin are of the Devil, so in a very broad sense, I guess she has a point.

But as far as the band, itself, being Satanic, they're not Satanic at all.

But I can see how she might have misunderstood Gene Simmons' character to appear that way.

For the record, their album, "Destroyer" was the first record I ever owned. I was a huge fan back in the 70's.

They're OK. I mean, there are certainly worse bands out there.

As a former professional musician, myself, I respect their showmanship, but I don't like that so much of their stuff is style over substance.

If they didn't have the gimmick of the makeup and costumes, I seriously doubt that they'd have half as many fans.

I grew up listening to KISS. Loved 'em. Still love to listen to the pre-Animalize stuff.

Gene makes no claims to be "demonic". He's a self-described hedonist.

I dont think they're demonic; the whole "scary" image was a gimmick; one which, I will remind you, the band lost when the 80's came around. I don't listen to the band much, their lyrics are quite sexual and hedonistic, and have a generally negative impact on me. Just pray about it. We have the privilege of a God who speaks to us about our problems, even ones that seem small like whether or not it's okay to listen to KISS. Take advantage of the privilege!

You don't appear to be as interested in fact as you are in rumor, but I'll go ahead and post Gene's own words, taken from his autobiography:

I've been a drummer for 19 years now. Even when I was a kid, just starting out, Peter Criss' drumming never inspired me.

Now I know why. It's because his drumming is boring and uninspiring, and his whole approach to the drums is poor. He's not an excellent drummer.

On the other hand, I do agree that Eric Carr was a great fit for KISS.

But, this is completely subjective, and you are entitled to your opinions.

That reminds me of the Glenn Frey quote from Rolling Stone where he refuted the rumors about "Hotel California".

I've been watching the reality show, "Gene Simmons' Family Jewels". There's something about him that makes you not want to like him. To be honest, I tuned into the show hoping that he'd be just as big a jerk as I thought he was.

That didn't happen.

Instead, he turned out to be articulate, charming and seems like a genuinely nice guy. Who knew?

He doesn't smoke or drink or do drugs, his kids are better behaved than average, he's good to his fans, he seems to have a self effacing good humor.

In short, he's the anti-Ozzy.

Back to the Glenn Frey thing. They were aware of the rumors and thought they were so outrageous that it was funny. The band actually wanted to disspell the rumors because they were tired of addressing it, but it was their management who encouraged them to stay silent about it, in order to drum up publicity.

Same here.

As a kid, I thought that KISS was the greatest band ever. I just thought they were all musical geniuses.

Around 1981, I grew out of them.

Then, years after I had become a professional musician, myself, I ended up with a bunch of KISS records.

That was when I realized, listening to them with a musician's ear that they just weren't all that good.

Don't get me wrong, it's OK for what it was - '70's glam rock, but they were small fish even in that pond.

I think that's great that you like Peter Criss, but I've been a musician for a lot of years and have worked with dozens of drummers. I truly do not know one of them who would cite him as any sort of influence or that they look up to him.

Let me put it this way, go take a look at magazines or websites that cater to drummers and percussionists.

One of the things you'll notice is that you very, very rarely, if ever, see his name come up.

Do yourself a favor. Before you go and proclaim Peter Criss as the second coming of Gene Krupa, go and listen to Gene Krupa.

Also, check out Russ Kunkel, Alex Acuna, Billy Kilson, Max Weinberg, Buddy Rich, etc.
