Is Kirsten Gillibrand's theology correct?

Flanked by abortion rights advocated at the Georgia state house Thursday, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand said that laws banning or restricting abortion are "against Christian faith."

"If you are a person of the Christian faith, one of the tenants of our faith is free will. One of the tenants of our democracy is that we have a separation of church and state, and under no circumstances are we supposed to be imposing our faith on other people. And I think this is an example of that effort," she said at a press conference.

Does the Christian faith say you have the free-will to kill an unborn baby?

If she knew anything about the 'wall of separation', she would know that's a theological and Biblical image. What was pictured was the family garden wall, it was immune to taxes and not subject to gleaning. That was the theological idea Jefferson was conveying to the Danbury Baptists. As such, religious conviction is a private matter not subject to the changing fortunes of government or the capricious rhetoric of political talking points.

Just one more example in the growing trend of people who are not Christian (or at least not living by any semblance of Christian principles) telling Christians what it means to be a Christian.

The following passage in Romans confirms that individual free is to be subject to God's Will through governing authorities.

Romans 13

1Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. 2Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. 3For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; 4for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil. 5Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of wrath, but also for conscience’ sake. 6For because of this you also pay taxes, for rulers are servants of God, devoting themselves to this very thing.7Render to all what is due them: tax to whom tax is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

I'm still looking for the term 'free will' in the Bible and for the non Christian public all I find is what we were apart from Jesus...

Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

She also needs to consider that not all those who oppose abortion and support these bills are Christian or feel that way because of their faith.

And not all those who oppose abortion and support these bills are conservatives.

Operative words "God's Will" in your statement.

Actually it's in John chapter 1 and it is not in a positive light.

John 1: NASB

12But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, 13who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

Indeed Shiloh. There are independents, Democrats and Libertarians who oppose abortion. You have been very vocal on this and do appreciate your comments keeping us on track in these discussions. The only one who is under examination in this thread is Gillibrand.

She has forgotten the commandment 'Thou shalt not kill'

She's also forgotten that God is the Creator of all life. We are fearfully and wonderfully made by Him and we are created in His image. King David wrote, "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb" (Psalms 139:13). It is also written that our bodies are the Temple of the Holy Spirit and we are not our own because we were bought with a price. We're commanded to honor God with our bodies (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Shedding innocent blood doesn't honor God.

My first thought was, did the Senator actually say that one of the tenants [sic] is...?

But yes, according to the link, the report from CBS News, that is exactly what she said. So my question is who is that guy...the tenant?
