Does anyone here know about kinsman-redeemers?

I wanted to know: When a man gave his widowed sister-in-law an heir on behalf of his fallen brother, did he continue to live with her as a husband and, perhaps, make additional children with her, or did he just stay long enough to give her her first child?

In Boaz' case [in Ruth], it appears that he was single with no conflict of interests, so I guess I am referring to kinsman-redeemers that already had wives.

My understanding is that the kinsman-redeemer would continue his marriage with his deceased brother's wife - continue to provide for her and live with her and possibly have other children with you. Generally polygamy seemed to be considered a better alternative than leaving a widowed woman to fend for herself in the world.

That must have been awkward, if they had no attraction to each other.

So, I guess this practice must have been tied to Israel's maintenance of tribal land ownership...?

Also, was Jesus' lineage reckoned to be through Boaz or through Ruth's first husband for whom Boaz was the kinsman-redeemer?
