Funny that no where in the Gospel narrative, anywhere in the New Testament, the writings of the fathers, the Creeds, or anywhere else in Christian confession or teaching such an idea can be found.

On the contrary the Christian confession on this matter is simply this, "but yet as regards his manhood begotten, for us men and for our salvation, of Mary the Virgin, the God-bearer" (Definition of Chalcedon).

I know the Scriptures and I know what the Church has always taught. The Blessed Virgin Mary is the daughter of Sts. Joachim and Anna, of the line of David.

I see no reason to keep it.

Christ is always depicted through a cultural lens. Saying that the European depiction of Jesus is "Traditional" ignores the historic non-European depictions of Him. Here are some, both ancient/traditional, and newer. All of these are faithful icons and Christian artistic expressions. Icons, as windows into heaven, exist to point to the reality that Christ became human. That means Christ was one of us, a human being, and so regardless of our race, ethnicity, or cultural background Christ is our Brother.

St. Paul in Romans says Jesus was "of the seed of David according to the flesh". The Church's tradition has always been that Mary's parents were named Joachim and Anna (aka Hanna or Anne), and Mary is of the line of David. St. Elizabeth's Aaronic lineage need not be in conflict with this.

In that culture, adoption was the same as biological offspring. Joseph raising our Lord as his own son MADE him an heir and offspring thru Joseph’s line. Mary’s line was irrelevant.
