  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Saw it New Year's Eve. It got my wife going all teary pretty good. I know one has to suspend disbelief, but among many other things, I wondered why an 8,000 pound beast wouldn't fall through the ice.

For movie buffs: did anyone catch the reference to the original 1933 movie? When Carl is escaping from his backers in the cab, he talks about the other leading actresses he couldn't get for his project. He says something like "Fay is doing a film for RKO." And then, "Cooper got her again." A nod to Fay Wray and Merrian Cooper, who wrote and directed the original.

I actually had a thought about his weight. He definetly weighs far more than 8000 pounds. African elephants weigh 14,000 pounds, and he is much larger than one of them.

Oh yeah, and one other trivia note I like is that Jackson tried to get Fay to do the last line of the film, but she died before it could be filmed.

Am I the only Christian here that was disturbed by all the blasphemy? Cry??? I didn't shed a tear or even come close, and I cry at TV commercials. While the film was well made and the special effects were top notch, why oh why does Hollywood insist on making films that take the Lord's name multiple times? I think the only thing Adrien Brody ever said was "Christ". He had no lines to memorize!

Sorry, but I can't give my stamp of approval to a film that uses my savior's name as a cuss word, I don't care if it's a 3 hour epic like Kong. :sigh:

Reps to you for mentioning this. As a Christian,I would be very offended by hearing Our Savior's name taken in vain that way,so I have no interest in seeing it in any form now. Irregardless of anything else it has going for it. I do not go to see a movie just for special effects. I am so thankful that you mentioned this. This is why I absolutely HATE re-makes,because of the garbage that is included in most, but not all,of today's films I do like the remake of "Shop Around The Corner-"You've Got Mail",but it may be the only one. God Bless You sister.  :prayer: :groupray:

I loved it, thought the direction was excellent and Naomi did an great job of conveying her feelings sometimes with little words.

As a Christian, I wasn't pleased with taking the Lord's name in vain. However I did see some other things. Symbolically, I saw the Kong as a sin raging monster who was drastically changed when someone showed him love. To me it showed how we could have been viewed before we met Christ, and how not to view others based on what you see. Christ's love can change anyone. That is just my impression and personal opinion.:)

I wonder if it's a bad sign that whenever I hear you guys get mad over something like that, it makes me want to just say Jesus Christ over and over and over. :D

I find the concept of being so easily offended difficult to understand.

I saw it this afternoon with my sons. And I never thought I would say this in a million years, but it was the best version of the story I have ever seen. It was far better than the original. I have seen the original many times, and this movie made me still care what happened to everybody, especially the ape.

Really good movie.

If you were a spirit-filled Christian,no explanation would be necessary, why hearing the name of Jesus taken in vain is offensive!:)

It's self-evident I'm not, so what was the point of your post?

I also think it is a bit less vain (based on the way people usually mean when they say take the lord's name in vain) than most movies... He used it as an expression of awe, as I recall.

Anyway, there are no words in existence that offend me the way you guys get over such things.

It reminds me of when people get so offended when a penis gets put on camera.

As I see it, Jimmy:

bringing the male anatomy into this was too much. I am certainly no prude; I've seen too much to be that. I am probably less naive than most folks. But, even I was offended by your use of the anatomical example. In addition, I have children, and I wouldn't want them to go through this thread and see that particular example. Please restrain your language in that regard.

By the way, I am one of those that are disgusted by full frontal male nudity. I can remember when such things were considered porn. And, no, I don't care to get into what the difference is between having a male on screen vs. having a female on screen. I do not deny having a double standard in that regard.

Other than that, disagreements happen.

Its just discusting all around when a not fully clothed indivdual is on screen and they DONT consider that inaappropriate for any screen rating. That discustes me to no end.
