  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think the main reason the box office seems slow is because it only gets half the showings a night that an hour and a half movie would get so there is less opportunity each night for ticket sales.

That said I think it is doing amazingly well for a three hour movie.

I like checking out how films are doing over at boxofficemojo.com.

It's really hard to say how King Kong is going to do overall thus far. Based on what exit polls are saying, audiences are really liking it, which might mean it could do good business for a long time.

Thing is though, word is with all costs taken into account, it's going to have to hit the 700 million mark to start actually making money (200 million dollar budget, 100 million advertising, 70 million premiere party, etc). However, I'd guess even if it doesn't get there at the box office, DVD sales will more than pick up the slack.

I'm kinda curious if there will be an extended version. I hope not, as I think it was already a touch long.

I liked it. But Peter Jackson did a good job with the natives... I think a little too good of a job...they were freaky!!!

Quite amazing and I got a bit teary eye(y) myself... I wish everyone thought King Kong was a cool ape and befriended him, giving him hugs and kisses rather than screams and bullets. But nooo....King Kong had to smash some things because of its natural reaction.

A good movie...and very lengthy as well.

Well, I liked it okay, but didn't think it was as great as anyone else seems to. I LOVE long movies. Some of my favorites are Dances with Wolves, The Aviator, all LOTR movies.. in fact, I only decided to go to King Kong when I found out it was 3 hours long. I just LOVE long movies.

However, this movie needed about 45 minutes cut out of it. It dragged too often and I found myself getting very bored. I like the special effects and I liked the acting. However, when I of all people start thinking a movie is longer than it should be, there's a problem.

Am I the only Christian here that was disturbed by all the blasphemy? Cry??? I didn't shed a tear or even come close, and I cry at TV commercials. While the film was well made and the special effects were top notch, why oh why does Hollywood insist on making films that take the Lord's name multiple times? I think the only thing Adrien Brody ever said was "Christ". He had no lines to memorize!

Sorry, but I can't give my stamp of approval to a film that uses my savior's name as a cuss word, I don't care if it's a 3 hour epic like Kong. :sigh:

I told my wife it was the most religiouos movie I had seen in a long time. I can't remeber the last time I heard a movie talk about Jesus so much. Is trully sad indeed. God bless. :)

They started really developing the characters. And then they crash on the island, and it's almost as if they just said, "That's enough depth! Let's do some crap action now!" I mean, Jimmy shoots a semiauto at Jack and it only hits the bugs? The T-Rex and whats-her-face swinging back and forth? It was like Jurassic Park meets Chicago. And the part where she walks down the (suddenly, miraculously silent and deserted) street in New York (in freezing weather in a flimsy dress) with (of course!) a dramatic sunrise silhouetting her? I cracked up. We were begging for the credits before they even reached the city. :p Maybe Peter Jackson took a bet that he couldn't write a hit movie while blind drunk.

Here’s a new phrase for you: “Suspension of Disbelief ”

This is a crucial element to King Kong. Let’s be clear about this; the entire movie revolves around a giant monkey. I mean, just look at the source material. It’s a campy rip-roaring adventure movie and Jimmy can shoot all the bugs off of Jack Driscoll with a machinegun because it’s creepy/suspensefu/absurde and has a punch line at the end. Just look at the lighting and color pallet of the movie and you can tell that historically accurate photorealism was the last thing on Peter Jackson’s mind. There comes a time when you just have to sit back and enjoy the ride. Having said that, suspension of disbelief comes easier to some people than others. Maybe you should consider something more somber like The Constant Gardener .

There's disbelief and then there are things that go way beyond disbelief, such as King Kong, but not all are bad. I won't see King Kong because it looks so lame, but The Constant Gardener was really good.

Hmmm...

I was disappointed when I saw this movie...

How did they fit Kong on the boat? How did tey get him in that Theatre?
To me, they skipped alot... and dragged on too much in the beginning... But yeah... It was ok, I guess... One of those movies that you dont necessarily take to heart... I mean, I get it... you know the "message" and everything... but it seems it was lacking... I'm not sure of what though.... The typical movie goer would say it was GREAT, but I give it 5/10...

I remember the older movies, so I knew poor old kong was going to die. I cryed big time anyway..it was so sad.. I wish they would have changed the end and sent him home to live... but thats ok.. I am still upset about how he died...

Now as a christian point we saw a mean lonely ol angry Kong, turn and see love for the first time since his mother perhaps ...

Eyes are the window to the soul, we saw a Kong trust. and died for her.......... In his eye's.................got me sobbing

I never liked the first movie, because I knew he would die, second the same.... ..but really this one sows great wonderful effects. and I saw someone say they didn't like when Kong fought the dinosaurs...Try to do it better!!!!
What my favorite part.. perhaps have a baby and know that you would fight and die, but know where your baby is at all times...she was his baby......I found it so cool... I hate these movies...but go for my boys.......

I kept wondering why Anne wasn't killed from severe whiplash.

I was in awe of the fact that her neck didn't snap when Kong was swinging her around. I came out of the movie kind of liking it, but when I think about it more, it was just okay. Some movies benefit nicely from 3+ hours, but this wasn't one of them. The fight scene between Kong and the Rex's and the stampede were a bit overindulgent for what they were. Had they been more abrreviated they would have been much more effective.

The special effects where very good, though.

I thought it was pretty good. Though, I can't remember the last time I saw a movie I didn't like.

Lots of it bugged me though, like lots of y'all were saying, how she didn't die from getting whipped around. also, I found the scenes with Kong and the Rex's way to long, along with a few other action parts.

Oh well. I will probably see it again with friends. heh
