King Crimson

One of my all time favorite bands. Anyone else like them? They were a seventies Progressive rock band. Really out there music, but great in so many ways. I found out that Red by King Crimson was Kurt Cobain's favorite album, and that gave me alot more respect for him, but I still don't like Nirvana much.

Red is probably their best album that I've heard.

Disciple and THRAK are excellent as well though.

Apart from a few other songs, I've only ever heard Court, which is a really good album (with the exception of Moonchild).

i haven't heard much of these guys but they seem really good i kno there inflance tool greatly and any band that can inflance a great band like tool must aleast be good

I think Red and Larcs Tongues in Aspic are both better but I like Court quite a bit.

King Crimson are/were fantastic in most of their incarnations (1970-72 being the weakest link imho). To describe them as a single monolithic "band" is a misnomer though, they're really more like 5 or 6 bands depending on the lineup (Fripp being the only consistent member in its almost-40-year history).

The 69-70 Court of the Crimson King lineup was SCARY in their heaviness and lyrical doom & gloom, yet also capable of such fragile and gentle beauty... The 1972-75 era was probably the heaviest (Red) and most "out", especially prior to Jamie Muir's departure (Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Bremen Beat Club '72, etc.). Bruford and Wetton were a sick rhythm section, and I love the improv stuff on The Great Deceiver, Starless & Bible Black and various bootlegs. The 81-84 band was very different-- heavy influence of minimalism, new wave, world beat. The Double Trio version was pretty dope, but I haven't been as keen on the latest quartet version's output-- they were good in concert, and certainly still able to run technical circles around a lot of bands out there, but I'm just not as into their recorded material.

I'm a long time fan, saw them live in Glasgow about 1976 - Bob Fripp was just stunning to watch live, he used to sit very still on a big kinda barstool, fingers flying all over the fretboard, spitting out those intricate solos.

The first time I saw Crimson was on the THRAK tour with the double trio in 1996; there was Fripp, sandwiched on his stool between the two drumsets...

I love KC. "Court" was a landmark album in its day and still sound great. "Red" is excellent as well as is "Larks Tongue" and many others. They are still putting out very innovative music and Robert Fripp is an excellent guitarist.

The recent remasters of Court and Red by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) are wonderful. He did several titles in their catalog, but I bought these first. I hope to get all the others as well. Excellent band.

I used to be pretty into King Crimson, all the different incarnations. I like "I Talk To The Wind" and "Epitaph" from "Court of the Crimson King". The Lizard suite from Lizard is pretty cool too. Now I prefer their earlier stuff, but I don't listen to them as much.

I loved "In the Court......" and "In the Wake of Poseidon". Once Greg Lake left to ELP and Ian McDonald to Foreigner, it hurt.
