porteross - I've seen some sects of SDA that have WEIRD beliefs.

I went to my fiance's grandparents church around Pittsburgh and they didn't have a pastor...some guy that was telling people about different alternate planets and basically telling people things "truth" which he was making up (like that God won't answer questions when we are in heaven...well how does HE know that).

Some SDA are completely different and have only minor variant beliefs like the Kettering SDA church here.

Yes, well that's what happens when a church ignores the Creeds and has no doctrine or confession based on Scripture.
I didn't realize the SDA poster was in that thread and thank God, Synger followed up with an explanation of the Nicene Creed and why it is so important. This young poster hadn't a clue why suggesting re-baptism as an adult was so in error to the OP's Anglican doctrine.

Make it up as you go Christianity, I guess. We get a new group of such missionaries here every spring. Now when they call the office looking for places to rent (which they typically fail to honor due to lack of funds) we are a bit more inquisitive as to their affiliation and intentions.
They all think they go into Mexico and witness, which is simply not allowed. It seems laws and local church outreach activities are of little concern to them before they set out, focused on their own goals. They do more damage than good in too many instances.

Our Spanish-speaking LCMS church here is very healthy, BTW. The pastor (my former pastor) is even shown on the LCMS.org website. We think that's pretty nifty!

Yea SDA churches individually are like little sects within the denomination.

Granted, the SDA church was formed because of a woman's vision and not any variant interpretation of the Bible or doctrines (granted they do have some far-out theology if you do research).

So...I supposed all those little rifts are to be expected.

Anyhow I told my fiance that I don't think I could ever go to his grandma's church because I felt VERY uncomfortable there as they were "preaching" completely against the Bible. I would rather stay at home with his Catholic grandfather.

Actually, I'm awfully glad you posted about this person's question. It really hit home for me, because when i went away to college I fell into a group of folks who pushed for a "decision for Christ." While they didn't teach that re-baptizing was REQUIRED, they certainly thought it was A Good Idea.

Poor little Presbyterian me, without the solid grounding in the catechisms and confessions that I later received as an elder, fell for their faulty doctrine. I was re-baptized. (Calvin might have had me burned as an Anabaptist, in another time and place.)

Anyway, I completely understand the confusion and frustration that the OP there is coming from. When you've never been challenged on your faith, or your church's doctrine, before, you may not be prepared to defend it. And college age can be SUCH a vulnerable time, because you are encountering ideas that you never even knew existed before.

Exactly, which is why I am so adamant about my daughter having an understanding of the Confessions long before she graduates high school. Your point of concern is exactly my justification for it. I want her foundation to be unshakable.

Try being raised in a home where our family belonged to a lutheran church, but we were taught fundamentalist from TV preachers (and my parents) at home.

I was about as confused as one could get, while growing up. I thank my Lord above that I had wonderful Lutheran teachers in the parochial schools I attended. My foundation felt secure there. Little did they know how God was using them in my life.
