  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Second of all:

I was stating it to the general population

All right:

Then I'll ask again, why should what matter? Your question is still unclear.

Third of all:

I wouldn't kill my twin

Then you would not kill a clone. What is your position on abortion? Stem cell research?

Fourth of All:

If a person commits a crime, would they kill both you and the clone? Since they're technically the same person? Or do you believe that it's the only that single entity's fault?

Who are "they" who will be killing people/clones? Are you referencing the death penalty? A person and their hypothetical clone are two separate entities. There is no reason for a clone to be held responsible for the 'original person's' (for lack of a better term) actions, likewise there is no reason for the 'original person' to be held responsible for their clones actions. Hopefully since we have hypothetical clones we have hypothetical means to tell one from the other, for the purposes of the justice system.

But I was wondering if you would have a problem killing a human clone.

Hypothetically speaking, ok? Let's not get into this big "let's not clone in the first place" discussion. Let's just assume, and use our imaginations.
It would be just as criminal and wrong as killing someone's twin sibling, as that's what clones are.

Ah, GCD, you've been watching too many sci-fi moves.

A clone is not the same person. It is a human with identical DNA to another human.... just like twins, triplets, etc..

If one of a pair of twins commited murder, would you jail them both?

To perhaps add to what is above stated, to Christians it would be just like another human being--it has the ability to go to God when it dies as God is the one who metes out souls and spirits.
Which, by the way, means that the clones will probably have different personalities and never be exactly the same as the original--so clones will basically be only near exact duplicates on the outside (I say near because there is always room for deformities), but most likely never exactly the same as a person. So this, would make me want to preserve them more, because they still will be somewhat unique of each other in that way.
They are fellow human beings and deserve the right to live.

I used to think that a clone would really be a twin.
Are you being deliberatly obtuse, or did you make a misstatement above?
Now the question is:

Would the clone really have a soul?
I think it was argued and decided about 100 years ago that both conjoined and separate twins both possess an individual soul.

Anyone have a reference?

You mean, you thought clones were the same person, but now you know they are different. Right?
They are (hypothetically) two separate, individual people with different personalities and separate, individual souls. They are basically identical twins with an age gap, and are human. So of course it would be wrong to murder them.

I absolutely would. While we may be able to manipulate the gene pool, God has to put the spirit in and give it life. To kill a clone would be the same as killing anyone else.

Identical twins are essentially clones of eachother. They are from the same exact DNA, but we don't consider them just one person. Each is a distinct individual. Clones are no different. A human clone would be distinct person regardless of the DNA source, and an unlawful killing of a person is still going to be unlawful.
