  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

From latest VotM update:
When 34-year old Jiang Zongxiu went to her neighboring market last June in Guizhou Province, China. Along with her mother-in-law, Jiang went through the marketplace, taking opportunities to hand out Bibles and Christian literature and telling people about Jesus. Only this day they had an encounter with the Chinese police.

The two Christian women were handcuffed together and brought to the police station. They were interrogated throughout the evening of the 17th. The next morning they were sentenced by the Public Security Bureau (PSB) to 15 days incarceration for "suspected spreading of rumor and disturbing the social order."

Jiang and her mother-in-law knew the risk of spreading Christian literature in communist China. Both had been active in their church for more than 10 years and dared to go forth. Even when they were arrested, interrogated and sentenced to serve 15 days, they were willing to accept the consequences of their actions - all from a government that claims to have "freedom of religion."

But it was not enough for the PSB to arrest and beat these two Christian women for the crime of passing our Christian literature. In the afternoon of June 18th, Mrs. Jiang Zongziu was pronounced dead by the PSB office of Tongzi County. They claimed she died of "natural causes." The fact is she was beaten to death.

The Voice of the Martyrs has received video testimony from the surviving family, photos of Jiang body showing her bruised body, and a copy of the actual arrest document. All of this had to be smuggled out of China as the authorities continue to attempt to hide their systematic persecution of Christians. An international campaign is now under way on behalf of the surviving family.

I read about this a while back from a VOM article in their magazine...I literally cried when I saw the photos of her body and I even sent a letter to all my Congressmen and Senators urging them to put pressure on the Chinese Church to do the right thing...I'm glad to hear that an investigation is finally being initiated.

In Christ,

We must pray for china also, that the doors will be open. I ask that all pray for me also, I'm going to china one day to teach God willing in the underground church many workers are needed.

May God be with us all and may we have the courage to die for christ if needed.

Peace to all in Christ, prayer everyday for those who are in the hard labor camps in china also.

When I hear about all our brothers and sisters in Jesus go through in other countries my heart truly goes out for them. At the same time it strengthens my faith to know they have people dieing and being imprisoned for my faith and I should do more.

It's horrible that things like this still happen in the world. It makes me grateful that my friends and I are able to do church fundraisers in public without fear.

In another website I'm a member of, people were having a discussion on "which religion gets the most persecution?" and people were saying things like "Christians aren't persecuted, they're, like, trying to take over the world!" and "Christians are the ones who are persecuting other religions". These people were completely ignorant of everything that is happening to our religion that the secular media often tries to cover up or dismiss as not being news-worthy. I've encountered people who treated me badly when they found out I'm Catholic, but the taunts and bad attitudes of the people I've known are nothing compared to what some of our fellow Christians in other countries must suffer.

Tell them to try and convince Christians living in Muslim countries that they aren't persecuted.

^ Not just the Middle-East and East Asia. Christians are persecuted horribly in Africa too. Yet, Africa is one of the places where the Catholic Church is gaining the most members. Something that I've noticed is that Third-World countries in general are places where Christianity is flourishing, yet is also persecuted. Maybe the suffering they encounter is one of the things that helps their faith to grow?

Have you ever listened to Steve Green's CD The Faithful? The title song has the words, "The Blood of the martyr's is the seed of the Church."

If you read Foxe's Book of Martyrs you see repeatedly that even as believers were being tortured and martyred, their faithfulness and refusal to repudiate Christ in the face of death, often caused the torturers to turn to Christ themselves, only to suffer the same fate.

Biblical faith only grows in the face of adversity.

I was reading in 2 timothy yesterday:

Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, or of me His prisoner; but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God,

2 Tim. 1:8

Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

2 Tim. 2:3

For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discilpine.

2 Tim. 1:7

Not to sound harsh, but it's her fault. If she knew the danger, why put herself at risk? Your life is more important than trying (unsuccesfully I'm sure) to turn people to christianity. I think God would rather have you live than die for no reason.

I'm not saying you shouldn't try and spread christianity. I'm saying that IMO it's stupid to try and spread it when you know you could be killed for it.

Luk 9:24 For if you want to save your own life, you will lose it, but if you lose your life for my sake, you will save it.

Jesus will reward those who are persecuted and killed for the sake of the gospel. I think it is a great honour to die for Jesus Christ and The Gospel.

As Christians we have surrendered our lives to take up the cross. This may include physical death in our service to God if called. Christians who give (not lose) their lives in the cause of the gospel understand that cost and give their lives willingly to let even one person hear the gospel. Who is to know how many people here or in China have come to know the Lord by the testimony of this young woman? Lastly, we know that this dear woman is not really dead, but more alive than ever.

Yeshuah's immense peace and love to you
