  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just had to share this...

Each night (most nights at least) I listen to my 4 year old's prayers. He has a real knack for being thankful for some of the oddest things. Sometimes I have to really work hard to not laugh. I'm glad that he understands the idea of being thankful and that he is so willing to pray, don't get me wrong...but some things are just absolutely hilarious...

He typically thanks God for each person in his family, individually, then he thanks God for himself (my son). Then he lists each of his siblings' friends that he knows. Then comes the strange things...like dinosaurs, hot dogs, Dollar General (a dollar store here in town)...

A couple of evenings ago we were at the table preparing to eat and I reminded everyone to wait until we had given thanks...the 4 year old pipes up and says he wants to say the prayer...he proceeds to give thanks for the food (not the God is good, God is great prayer, but an individual prayer of thanks for the food)...I forgot what we were having, but just as he finished praying he goes "Oh, and thank you for ketchup and mustard, in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, Amen"...and everyone at the table just lost it lauhing, including my dad who was having dinner with us.

I LOVE IT! How adorable. And I totally agree that these reposnses are typical and just a great adorable part of teaching them how to express their thanks to God.

I had mentioned to my 6-year-old about a little girl that I had written in Christian Forums about. I gave her the "G" version, but I met a small girl named Stephanie at a tradeshow who was clearly abused. Her dad was not permitted to have her out on the show floor during set-up, so as part of Show Management, I volunteered to have her hang out with me. She proceeded to tell me about her dad's anger and that Mom had left and didn't love her. She had some serious issues-- so I took the opportunity to try and lift her self-esteem and tell her how beautiful and smart, etc., etc.

Well the point of this story is that I had told my 6-year-old that I had met a little girl who was always sad and that she didn't have a lot of things and asked her if she'd include her in her prayers each night.

The tradeshow was four months ago... and EVERY NIGHT my little Hannah says her blessings for Stephanie... along with things like Ketchup and Mustard. I tihnk she's getting it!

ROFL, I'd forgotten about this thread (I think that may mean I'm taking part in too many forums, lol)...but I'm glad this one resurfaced because I have one to add...

for Christmas dinner out at Gwenyfur's house, my 4 year old said the blessing...it went something like this:
Dear God,
Thank you for the dishes, the silverware, thank you for my family (which was followed by a thanks for each individual at the table, except my son didn't know all the names. So everyone, in turn, whispered their name to him so he could include it).
He totally forgot the food being blessed though, lol.
