  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Really, why? Not that I disagree. This is an issue my husband and I can't decide on. On one hand, we would like our kids to be closer together and enjoy each other's company and also so that we can get out of the baby stage before we are too old (we plan on having 3 or 4 kids).... on the other hand I would love to be able to focus and spend exclusive time with each child and enjoy each of their growth rather than being overwhelmed which is something that 4 year spacing could bring.... we go back and forth weekly pretty much.... I doubt I can wait 4 years though. We also have the money issue to want to wait, I would like to be able to afford another vehicle before we had another kid like an SUV/minivan or something.

Our children are almost 5 years apart and that is perfect for us but I still chose '3 to 4 years'.

I loved giving my son that undivided attention. And, when we had his sis, he was starting Kindergarten so she had two years of (almost) undivided attention. We started homeschooling, though, so she doesn't get quite the amount she was getting but I'm working ways to really make her feel she has mommy's time.

We'll be adopting our next child when my daughter is a couple years older. I really like this spacing and like to give each child that feeling that they are mommy's baby for at least the first few years of their lives.

I chose 2-3, but each of my children were 15 months apart. My ex and i planned to have the first two close together (I was thinking about two years apart, but God had other plans). I was on birth control when I got pregnant with my daughter (my last, I might add), and she was born 15 months after my second son was born.

I really wish I could have had a bit more time to spend with each of them before their siblings were born. Being that close in age, has really been hard for me. They were all so young, and I don't think they understood why I couldn't devote more time to them individually.

Thank goodness, children are resilient! :)

Hubby and I were recently talking about this...cause I have baby fever already...but, I know now is not a great time to start trying..I mean we just had Lilly..., but, if the Lord blesses us we will still be overjoyed. So we are thinking..maybe around when she is potty trained we will start for another one. That's not too far apart in age. Then the same on the next...and if hubby will go for it..the next one after that:) I just think at that age she able to do a little bit for herself and I don't know about changing poopie diapers with morning sickness...I had it terrible with her.

I chose 3-4 years because both my children have been born by caesarean,if I have another, it will also be by c-section, so having the children able to get in and out of the bath, etc. is a big help with that.

Also Daniel was toilet trained when Emily came along (he wasn't trained until 3) and I didn't have to worry about nappies with the morning sickness.

It was so nice having Daniel at an age where he can talk about the baby, and some of the things he has come up with about her are so funny. and being able to understand how to be gentle with her is a big thing too, so I feel comfortable with him holding her (with supervision of course)

I didn't vote beacause I could never make that decision. On what would I base it? Disclaimer: Not trying to say others shouldn't!

Sibling rivalry? it will be or not be there regardless, it is in families years apart and those born right next to each other. Parenting style has more to do with it than birth age or order IMO.

My comfort? is pregnancy ever easy?! Not even the first with no children at home to care for!

Work load? er dunno but it seems that while DS is easier in some regards (no diapers) he is harder in others, for one thing he never naps! I need a nap! I havn't had a older child of my own yet, but I don't see my freinds of older children laying back and taking it easy much, so I imagine it will always be a bit hard in some way.

I have a cousin with two kids less than a year apart, She loves it.

I have a neighbor with kids over 10 years apart, she loves it.

Mine are close (around 2 years), I love all but the pregnancy part :). Actually ask me again in 6 months and I won't mind the pregnancy again :)
