  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I was going to say something about iron sharpening iron. But, I would be happy to be a well-heaved stone, let alone anything particularly sharp. Plus that phrase has just been beaten to death, and some rather blunt instruments, quite ironically.

Anyway, put your two cents in here on the debate.

Y'all are going to stop me before I out on a limb, right?

Bump?

Anyway. Perhaps it is obvious. But, I think the point about what is knowable has to do with whether we really can account for what we see.

If there is more to what we can see than what we do see, how is what we see should be the best frame of reference. (We walk by faith, not sight.)

If God has spoken, and we all believe that he has in some measure, TE and YEC, is he not speaking from the perspective of a far more intimate, direct and impactful level of observation and intervention in what is happening right before our eyes, or in the rocks we study or whatever?

Obviously, faith willl change how you view this problem of a vast unknowable field of causes that affect our world. But, if you have faith, it is very hard to have confidence in what you see.

As for what God says, I play this song by Sara Groves about a girl who gets sent to therapy for spending too much time alone and thinking too seriously about God. Looking up the stars at night she asks:

Maybe this was made for me,
For lying on my back in the middle of a field.
And maybe that's a selfish thought.
But maybe there's a loving God.
And maybe i was made this way.
To think and to reason and to question and to pray.
And I have never prayed alot.
But maybe there is a God.

I think a loving God wrote the Bible, and wrote in a way that infinite love would, perfectly, because my eyes will not find the truth on their own. WHen I look into the Word, I think, this was made for me, because God loves me too much to let me survive on metaphor and doubtful interpretation alone.
