CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Good point, however unlikely.
As we've seen, especially with the budget; If there's any governing to be done, it will have to come from the moderate/left side of the House. The right has proven they're incapable.
Well.. a non-functioning House does give conservatives their 'limited government'.

The fact that a budget/governing has to come from the left side of the House is kind of my point. There are some moderate Republicans, particularly in districts that are purple or even lean Democrat, they may get frustrated enough with things to vote for a Democrat for Speaker, and make Jeffries Speaker of the House. Having said that, it will be a while before we get to that point, as those Republicans won't want to face the "penalties" from the Republican leadership for voting with Democrats. I'm sure we'll get plenty of votes for various Republican candidates to see if they can get someone elected, first.

I really don't think it's possible to elect a speaker with just Republican votes now. That means making some kind of deal with the Democrats and there was no way McCarthy could do that considering how often he acted in bad faith with the Democrats. While I am disgusted by agreeing with anything he says, Gaetz was right in that nobody trusts McCarthy and that is a death knell for anybody's political career.

Ya, I don't see any GOP member getting enough votes to get the seat. I do see the Dems taking it after the nth vote for the seat as moderate GOP members getting tired of the gridlock work with the Dems to get some deal out of it.
But it will be a long and painful process.
