So, what's the deal with these guys and the "Word-Faith" movement/denomination? I've been hearing about it and the negativities that accompany people like Joyce Meyer, Joel Osteen, Kenneth Copeland, Kenneth Hagin, Rod Parsley, etc. Basically, anyone on TV or who has written a popular book. Is everyone that writes a successful book, or has a tv program part of this and sent from the devil?

There's a ton of info on the web, but who has time to read all that? ;) Anyone have the summary answer to these:

What are their beliefs?
What makes their beliefs un-biblical?
How did it all start?

I ask because there is a RHEMA Bible Church in my community and the pastor is the Regional Harvest whatever leader, one of Rod Parsley's branches.

Don't know much about it except that they believe something along the lines that you can "speak into being" whatever you want. I recall one preacher saying that he can tell the spirituality of a christian by looking at the kind of car he drives. David Cho (aka Paul Y. Cho) said that if you are sick it's because of lack of faith. (Not hard to see where this leads) There are lots of examples of some really bizarre stuff these guys preach, and they have lots of followers.

Believe it or not, but one of the biggest preachers against the Word/Faith teachers is our old buddy Jimmy Swaggart. Of course the usual suspects are at work refuting this: Hank Hannegraff (sp?), Mike Horton, and others have all written stuff documenting the many errors they teach.

A good excercise, though, is to get it straight from the horse's mouth, and go their link here at CF and get their point of view. I'm sure they won't bite!;)
