In times of darkness, carry your light within you. It will shine not only for you, but for all your fellow travellers as well.
Within all of us, there is a light. It's our passion, our spirituality, our faith, our optimism. It is all those sparks that keep the fire alive.
Look around you. There are some people whose light shines brilliantly, especially in times of darkness. They light the way for others, warm them, make a lantern for others even when others don't see the need for it. These are the people who light up the hearts of all those around them.
Right alongside these torchbearers, are the people who bring doom and gloom. It's not that they don't have the light. Every person has the light going on somewhere inside of them. It's that they don't honour their light.
They may believe their light has been extinguished, they may be negative without even knowing it. Or they may have consciously chosen the dark side. Whatever the reason, they are the whiners, moaners and groaners.
What are you? Has your lantern gone out? Do you glow warmly with love and grace? Or are you blowing out the candles of others one by one?
The challenge is : It's easy to shine brightly when the wind is at our backs and fortune favours us. It's quite another thing to shine brightly when the wind turns against us and we feel the lash of adversity.
Many people's lights flicker on and off depending on their circumstances. What do you do? Are you in charge of your mood or do you go up and down according to the weather?
Even the brightest among us need others to light our fires. We are all social creatures. We need other people to confirm and validate us constantly.
So even if you are one of the strong ones, even if you are a person who goes first into that dark night, know that it's okay every now and then to depend on someone else.
