• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi everybody! Please pray for me as I will be seeing my doctor tomorrow about changing my meds. I have been taking cymbalta for about two years and it just doesn't seem to do any good any more. I really don't know what med to try next and my dr (who is thankfully a christian) doesn't seem like the type to try something stronger than an SSRI for my depression and ocd (he strongly believes its spiritual warfare). So I'm a little unsure of what he will want to do. Please pray that I will find something that works and although I know we all respond differently to meds if you have any input on what you use that works I would appreciate the advice. Thanks yall for all the prayers and support and reponses. They have really been a help.

God bless all of you

HI James! I will be praying also for your doctor appointment! That is such a blessing that your doctor is a Christian! I once had a Christian Psychiatrist and it was such a blessing to be able to discuss with her the relationship between spiritual warfare and chemical imbalances. She actually told me that "they" really don't know how much of it is caused by spiritual warfare, but that they do know that medicine does work... I'm not on anything anymore, but once paxil really worked for me ... I really know it is all in the Lord's hands though, and that everyone is different...

Hi James,
I had trouble with SSRI's so I used Remeron for awhile, about a year, to help with the depression and currently just use Buspar. But if you've been on a SSRI for awhile it may be better to switch to another one. I've read that Prozac is usually very good to treat OCD. Also much easier to quit than many of the other SSRI's.
As far as OCD being "spiritual warfare" - I really don't think there is any type of suffering that doesn't challenge us spiritually. But OCD is no different in this way than if you were challenged by cancer, parkinson's, an accident etc.
I do think it's extremely important that we educate ourselves about how to use exposure/response therapy along with meds. in order to really manage the OCD.
If you haven't already visited this site you will find it very helpful toward gaining an understanding of how to deal with the unwanted/intrusive thoughts of your OCD. Go to www.ocdonline.com and read Dr. Philipson's articles - in particular the ones on pure "O" ocd should be helpful to you.
Also, I know you probably don't feel up to it but if you can force yourself to do so get as much regular aerobic exercise as possible. It can, over time. be a great asset to overcoming the depression.
I am praying for you. Keep us posted as to how you're doing.
