Do we have many authors on here who have self published?

What was your experience like? I am hoping to publish my first novel in October and would appreciate some tips and advice.

It's a great process. Gives you a lot of freedom. I went the publisher route at first and got screwed over, so I decided to publish my own from now on.

Did you have a platform or start from scratch? Most things I read are that you need to build a list to be successful in amazon.

I have self-published two books through createspace and Kindle. I do enjoy having complete control of the process. The bad thing is that you have to be willing to market yourself constantly. I'd say it's a good idea to start with a blog and build your presence on social media. Twitter did wonders for me when it came to getting the word out about my book. You can go search hashtags in your genre and see how others are doing it.

It's a great feeling to see your book in print, but be ready for the negative reviews if you haven't had a professional edit.
