They also freed up Onenote a year or so ago. But again, they have an angle. They want to draw you into Office integration, and their Onedrive cloud. Apparently Evernote was threatening them too much.

Microsoft does this on it's own, as well as secretly changing your update settings from "conditional (manual, every 10 days, alert before install) to "NOW" - where your previous settings don't mattwr, and your machine and Microsoft share information unbounded or unprevented.


No way any businessman would provide a free operating system upgrade for a platform 85% of the world uses - just for charity, to show off their product, or the lulz. There has to be some profit involved - some return. It is your information and intellectual property on your machine.
