  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, they are
I believe the appropriate response to something this out of line with reality being represented as supposedly true is... Liar, liar, pants on fire.

Our money....used to support vouchers for rich kids who are already attending private schools.
I thought vouchers were a product of the people. People who wanted them. I mean we don't all agree on everything, but that's why we have a representative government. If your state or area doesn't want them, fine. But if another does, then so what?

That's why we have states rights.

He's further left than her.
And that's difficult to be. I guess the choice is even more clear now. She's not even trying to fool anyone.

Perhaps she believes America is finally ready for a socialistic government. I guess we'll find out. There sure seems to be a lot of them these days.

Socialism has NEVER worked in all of history.
Depends on what you mean by socialism. Soviet-style? Not a great track record. On the other hand, e.g. Denmark seems to do pretty well. But people will disagree on which of these is really socialism (sometimes to intentionally confuse the conversation, even). Almost as if a candidate talking about how socialism means different things to different people, such as in the OP, is just acknowledging reality.

I appreciate the right embracing environmentalism, in that they're recycling the same talking points about the current candidates that were used in years past. Just change the name, call them the most liberal ever, and hope they win a national election. Beats having to come up with policies that benefit the majority of voters.

It seems so. The institutions in this country appear to be set up for it. Media, Education system, judicial system, open borders, corrupt FBI, secret service, on and on it goes. Now a presidential candidate installed by big donors at the last minute.

Arizona voters rejected vouchers via a refereendum in 2017. Subsequently, the AZ Republican controlled legislature ignored the voters and implemented it anyway in 2022.
Last year, the program cost the taxpayers an "additional $295 million to finance the universal voucher program and subsidize tuition for students who were already enrolled in private schools".

I happen to support school choice but with income limits. In other words I support the vouchers for people who need it to go to a private school, but not just anyone who sends their kids there. The fact is that not all students are at their best in public schools maybe they would benefit from smaller class sizes maybe they have needs that it is hard to meet in a traditional school setting that does not mean that they would not do well in a school better suited to their needs and a parent's income should not determine where a child goes to school, but people who can afford to send their kids to a private school without assistance should not get it.

I am willing to settle for a middle ground of sorts of getting rid of school zones where anyone in a given county can go to any public school in that county without restriction of where in the county you happen to live.

You and those who agree with you will vote against Gov Walz because of the Floyd murder and riots. That will swing one votes. Those folks were never voting Democratic.

What Republicans will learn is that many thousands of black men will now vote Democratic. Gov Walz turned the cases over to a special prosecutor, the only way that there would be any accountability to those who commited the murder.
=========
BTW, I agree that the governor waited too long to send in the guard.

What the left is offering is a Presidential candidate regarded as the most liberal Politician in congress (when she was there) and a vp who speaks approvingly of socialism.

Good to know who we are faced with.
Republicans have been trying to call liberal policies "socialist" at least since WWII. It is a meaningless charge except to their base.

There will indeed be a huge choice with regard to liberal policies in the tradition of Roosevelt, Humphrey, Johnson, Clinton and Obama.

One problem is that fighting against Romneycare/Obmacare, and fighting against the large number of liberal policies is a losing battle for Republicans.
=========
The most obvious "socialist" policy is taxes. Democrats want to increase taxes on the top tax bracket with no increases for anyone with income $400K. This is extremely popular. The Democrats want to reduce taxes in 2026 and beyond by maintaining or increasing the childcare credit. Again, this is a very popular position.

The BOTTOM LINE is that the Republicans will point out all the liberal policies passed in MN with shock and attack. This will only help Democrats.

The other BOTTOM LINE is that the Republicans have several very solid issues which could have them competititve in November. They have chosen a different path.
