• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Advice? Just DON'T DO IT!! As a smoker of both cigs and weed, I can tell you how easily the addiction sneaks up on you and how very HARD it is to give it up! You might not think you're addicted now, but you are. If you weren't, then you wouldn't be posting here for advice. You are already psycologically addicted. Be smart - give it up now, while it's still relatively easy. Don't fool yourself into thinking that you aren't addicted "yet".

That would be the psychological addiction kicking in. Don't give in to it. It will only be even harder down the road. Every time you get the urge to light something up, DO something else! I exercised to keep my mind off of the urge. You just need to get yourself occupied with something else until the urge goes away!

I don't claim to be a professional or anything, but if there's anything that I can do for you, then let me know! It's a struggle to quit smoking, but it's soooo worth it!

Dunno if you quit like you said hope you did coz its always easier said than done trust me i quit smoking 15 days ago after 12 years of smoking, i started when i was 13 and wish i never had, this is my 5th attempt and i am hoping this will be the last.

What i have found is to set a quit date something not tooo far in the distance but enough time for you to get your head around the fact that you will be quitting, the night before your quit date, have a final ciggie, and make sure you know it is and then throw/give away the rest of the ciggies (never keep them in the house will be too tempting when nic starts his tricks) and put away any ashtrays and have a general clear out of any ciggie related items.

Some people use nrt (nicotine replacement therapy) such as patches or gum, these give you the nicotine that your body craves and makes the withdrawels easier to handle, i personally have not used these but i have heard they are good.

Changing sernarios in your day to day life helps when quitting such as if you would have a cup of tea in the morning with a cig have coffee instead or anything that you dont relate with having a cig, drinking lots of water will help too, finding a good forum to chat to ppl is one i have found and its made quitting alot easier as i can see how many ppl have been through the same as i am but are still there weeks later, keep busy join a gym with the money that is saved, and another good thing is to write down why you want to quit, your reasons so that when you feel like going out and buying another pack of cigs you can read your list and remind yourself why you quit in the first place.

Im not going to say that it'll be easy coz it wont, nic will try his best to beat you on every level what you have to remember is you dont need to smoke, take each day a step at a time and think about the fact your giving up nothing and gaining alot.

And dont give up if you have a little blip, so do many other people, the trick is to learn from it and to get back to quitting asap.

Here is the forum i am with they very friendly and have been with me since i quit, can rant and rave and they will help you through it, i do hope you join us there
