  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Often I hear all we have to do is "stand." According to Eph 6:13 "Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."

I'm sure not implying that we can anything in our own strength either.

But "...having done all..." to me indicates an active involvement. We put on the whole armor of Yahweh - prior to being able to stand. Because without that armor, we won't be able to stand (v11 ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil).

Does "having done all" include praying as in v 18-20? Some support prayer as armor? "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak."

Yes, read James. Faith/works.

To the first question: sure. Prayer is a powerful weapon.

To the second question: the armor is listed; prayer is not on the list. Do not add to scripture. ;)

Ephesians 6:17-18
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 [a]With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, [c]be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints,

Is prayer part of the armor? We are to use the armor and we are to pray. What good is the armor if it is not used? And what good is prayer if it is not used?

We use the armor when we are alert. If we are not alert we fail to use the armor. Pray would be the action of being alert. When we pray we are alert.

Prayer would be the use of the armor if it is not the armor, wouldn't it?

Romans 8:14 and 2 Cor 5:7
For as many as are being led by the Spirit of God these are sons of God.
For we walk by faith not by sight.

For me to have done everything is to walk in obedience of love by the direction of the Holy Spirit in faith.

When all the work is done and I'm waiting for the physical result of God's answer to my prayer of faith. I reject the accusation of the enemy by the word of God. 2 Cor 10:3-5

Also standing in worship can be an act of faith.

ABM
Why is it important to make the distinction between prayer as a weapon and not prayer as armor?

Maybe this should be moved to a new thread?

Prayer is needed when One is lacking something.

In the case of the armor there is nothing lacking to pray(ask) for.

If we "put on" the armor we are fully protected and ready, nothing missing, nothing lacking.

Stand is another word for patience.

I am sorry for this dumb question, but I would like to hear opinions on how to put on this armour?
I suggest doing some research to get a good grasp of the armour (try googling) Fundamentally the armour (defense) and weaponry (offense) is all JESUS. The helmet protects your head (soul/mind) while the breastplate protects your heart (spirit) the two most vunerable targets of a born again Christian. Of course you have the word of God when you need to "fight" but remember that your enemy is not people.
Study well to be fully equipped :)

For me putting on the armor is setting my mind to use the armor.

Optimax, prayer is more than just asking. It can also be talking with our Father as we are struggling with life's issues.

Such as: Me saying, God I am discouraged with our government. Then He brings to mind the Scripture to pray for those in authority.

This comes from a friend who studies Greek. Ephesians 6:13 reads like this:

Be taking and keeping as your own possession, every implement, tool, weapon, and armor of God, so that you will be enabled to stand in the day of the wicked. And after committing all and effectively ending up being enabled to stand, you keep standing girded in the armor of God.

This friend explained to me that God wants us to stand in His ability and provision and stay there unmoved, not trying to use our ability to accomplish anything. God wants us to stay in prayerful communication with Him to be prepared in advance for anything He might instruct, so His power can be used for any situation.

The Greek words for "having done all" means after committing everything to God in faith and receiving His ability and provision we'll end up enabled to stand and not be moved.

Some people think they can go through the motions of putting on the armour and that it will work but that is not how or why it works, it is a matter of having a revelation of the pieces of the armour or having a revelation of who you are in Christ that will cause you to stand against the enemy...

Your question is not one that can be answered in a sentence as it requires a revelation of who you are in Christ... I have 16 hours of teaching on the armour, (still a tip of the iceberg) if you are interested PM me and I will send you the links...
