  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just on guard

I have been reading the Holy Bible, but until now I am still in search of "testing" whether a preacher is a deceiver when I read the following:

2 John 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

I have met people belonging to other sects and "they all confess Jesus Christ is come in the flesh." But:

Some say, "Jesus is only a man and not God"

Others say, "Jesus is only a mighty God for there is a supreme or Almighty God"

Still others say, "Jesus Christ is the name of the Father and the Holy Spirit"

Many say, "Jesus is both God and man, and He is the second person of the Holy Trinity."

May I know who is a "deceiver and antichrist?"

uhh...I would say that all the folks except the last one are a little foggy on who Jesus is, the last one COULD be okay, depending on what they mean by "both God and man".

The gospel, however, is pretty clear on this one, Jesus Christ is the risen son of God, both human and divine. He and God the Father and the Holy Spirit are God. In precisely what way these three make up God is a mystery that cannot be fully explicated by humanity (IMHO).

your question seems kind of like a quiz so MY question is...

How'd I do? Am I a deceiver and antichrist?

You can know them by their fruits, not their doctrine;

Gal 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

First of all, look for love. Nothing will ever be more important than love.

Not too many of them around anymore though...

I'd becareful about that........I've seen Gnosticism/Dualism rampant in many evangleical churches.......the rapture is dualistic, the concept of going on a mission trip and only getting people saved but not really taking care of their physical needs. The Catholic understanding that sex is not for physical pleasure between a man and a wife......

The more I've studied Gnosticism and dualism the more it's shocked me to see how churches today are influenced by it.

People who hold those views probably shouldn't use the title "Christ" when refering to Jesus because they don't believe He is the Christ, or Messiah. I know this is true with Muslims, they only refer to him as Jesus.

That passage does use the word Christ, so IMHO that is stating that you must recognize that Jesus is the Messiah who came to earth in the flesh.

Finally I found the "forumula" for discerning the deceivers. I read a wonderful article:

GOD IDENTIFYING HIMSELF!

In Chapter 5 of the book:

CHRISTIANITY: Yesterday and Today
(The Discord Among Christian Sects)
ISBN: 1589612833

I suggest you take hold of that book.

I read Matthew 24 where our Lord spoke to His Disciples regarding His Coming and the End of the World.

I suppose we expect all the things written to happen in the future. I was surprised when I read what our Lord told His Disciples in:

Mat 24:34 Verily I say unto you,
This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Mat 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Any feedback on this seemingly contentious or controverial statement of our Lord?

I read a lot of premillenialists, who say that the Greek word "generation" can also mean "nation," and that Jesus was referring to the Jews, not to the people around him. What it means to me is that God wants us to live in a state of constant expectation for Jesus' return.
