Old Testament was written for the Jews right? The new Testament has the Gospels, the heart of Christianity. And Saint Paul is crucial for us to understand what Jesus meant.
Any of you guys read the Old Testament more than the New Testament?

The NT is built upon the OT, and both Jesus and Paul draw from it. I'm not sure someone can understand the NT properly without a reasonable understanding of the OT.

I read the OT almost as often as I do the NT. 1) The entire bible is God's word. 2) It was the only bible used by the early church. 3) It is important to understand where church beliefs came from, for example, the Messiah, the Mosaic Law, the history of the Jews, etc. Remember, there were NO Christians during Jesus' lifetime and "salvation is from the Jews". Gentiles are wild olive branches grafted in; Jews are the original branches.

The OT is foundational to the NT. It is how we know that we are in need of a Messiah, how we know that there will be a Messiah, how we know who the Messiah is, how we know how to recognize him, and have a relationship with him based on faith a love. In Acts 17:11, the Bereans were praised because they diligently tested everything that Paul said against OT Scriptures to see if it was true. At its deepest level, the OT is all about the Messiah, in Luke 24:27, it says that beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, Jesus interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself, in John 5:46, Jesus said that Moses wrote about him, and in Romans 10:4, it says that Messiah is the goal of the Torah for righteousness for all who believe. The NT authors quoted or alluded to the OT thousands of times show that it supported what they said and that they did not deviate from it. According to Amos 3:7, God does nothing that He has not revealed to the prophets, so whenever someone teaches us something, we should likewise diligently test it against the OT to see if it is true and reject it if it is not in accordance with the OT.

Both testaments have issues. The OT is far worse, but I think Christians should be able to see a progression from the OT to NT in how to understand God. Tribal God with rules to a God that more plainly requires mercy & love. Many Christians in the US seem to prefer the tribal vision.

Love, mercy, and grace are attributes that God had and displayed in the OT, there are 1,050 commands in the NT while there are 613 in the OT, and there is plenty of judgement written about in the NT. In Acts 17:11, the Bereans were praised before they checked everything Paul said against OT SCripture to see if what he said was true and the NT authors quoted or alluded to the OT thousands of times to show that it supported what they said that that they didn't deviate from it, and God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, so any understanding of God that deviates from the OT is incorrect.

Christians who only consider the NT, and there are plenty of them, misunderstand the NT because they read it out of context.

Many of the whacky thinks that evangelicals do comes down to their ignorance of the OT.
